Hi...lately I have been having this horrible panic stuff when I drive. Feel like I'm falling. The puzzling thing is I had been getting better and thought it was gone for good but now it has smacked me upside the head yet again. Tonight coming home from class the swirling snow didn't help... when I came up next to another vehicle on the expressway (especially a truck) I kept feeling like I was just going to lose control and swerve into the next lane. Or like I'm driving down the road and I will suddenly completely lose my vision. Very terrifying experience. I *hate* *hate* *hate* this! Even though I can tell myself where it is coming from, now it seems not to help. I don't want to be at the mercy of my own stinkin' fear! Been home for 20 min. and I still feel like I'm moving...yuck!
I never had the spins per se but lately when it is dark and my eyes are closed I get a sensation of spinning. All my tests are "normal" so my ENT has done with me...Oh well thanks for letting me whine...ups and downs you know...

Hey ASLme,
Sorry to hear about your crappy drive home. I had a few bad experiences at the wheel of a car in late 2003 when the labs was in full swing. I would usually get hit with massive symptoms when the car stopped moving and I'd get out and try to walk. There was one episode in the car though where I was stuck in this long line of traffic. I was thinking happy thoughts, radio on and whammo...this freaked out feeling went right up my spine and then I was in a panicked state for the rest of the ride - adrenalin shots and all. It might lift your spirits to know that driving no longer has an effect on me now. It all blew over eventually and it will for you too.
Best...Scott

Hi ASLme,
It happens to me, too, especially when it's raining out. Sometimes I feel like the cars to my right are waaaaay too close to me, when, in fact, they are no closer than they've ever been.
It is nerve-racking and makes me doubt myself for the rest of my drive. I just try to remember that it doesn't happen every day... although it's hard to calm down when you picture yourself in a car accident! I'm staying optimistic that this feeling will someday pass.
Hope you have an easier drive today,
Cori

Thanks guys; you're the best. I guess this road is more bumpy than I thought but I appreciate your encouragement.

I dont drive much these days but when I do, I also get the movement sensations - I dont get panicked - but I def get the vestibular symptoms you describe. When I stop at a junction, I still move, I can see the car moving even though its not etc. Horrid.

SL - if its reassurance that this is normal for vestibular probs that you need - then I can reassure you it is! Im under a renound hospital for my inner ear prob and so Im not searching anymore for reassurance as to whats normal for this as I trust my diagnosis and the specialist I see. But Ive been there done that - as in wanting reassurance from doctors etc - but wheny ou find the right specialist - you wont!
Dont worry about the car thing - all v normal - unfortunately :(
