I was shocked to find pain in one of my breasts on Sunday. Feeling there, I felt a movable lump--much like a swollen duct or something--right where I have pain (on the side of my breast.
I went to the GP today and she felt it too. I have now been referred to the breast center and don't know how I will wait that long (a few weeks she said).
Anxiety builds as my mother died of breast cancer on Jan 7. She fought long and hard for 6 years.
If this is a cyst, is there anything I can do to help it reduce in size or go away? I don't know what to do.

The only thing I can tell you to reassure you is that breast cancer is very rarely painful. So if you do have a lump that's painful most likely it's something else...benign! But it's important to get it checked out, 1) for your peace of mind 2) because you are at increased risk for developing BC and 3) to treat it whatever it is....good luck :)

Ivana is right. Breast cancer is rarely painful and 95% of the time the lump will be quite hard and not movable. Is there anyway that it could be menstral related? Or maybe you might of hit it or anything? No need to stress yet. Let us know how it goes.

Okay, well yesterday toward end of day the pain started to subside, and this morning, the lump feels like it is getting smaller too.
I made a conscious decision to cut caffeine out of my diet--the weekend was a bit excessive--a large coffee, many non-decaf black teas, lots of chocolate, chocolate cookies, HobNobs (yum) and I thought it best to take the matter into my own hands!
I had something (lump) before but by the time I got to the ultrasound it was GONE. Hopefully this is the same type of thing.
Pain - reduced & lump - I think reduced (although may be my imagination),

my mom would get painful limps in her breasts fue to caffeine. She also had cysts before but nothing cancerous. I bet you are ok but it is always a good idea to check it out.
