Hi,
My son has been on a gluten-free (well, more accurately, about 70% gluten-free) diet for approximately one week. He has not yet had the blood tests ordered by his GI doctor. How long should he be non-gluten free before having the tests peformed, in order to ensure the most accurate results?
Thank you.

i think he has to eat gluten for about 6 or 8 weeks..lots of white bread, fast foods and, all of the rest..its crazy bacus if your sons reacting to gluten real bad..he must still keep eating it for about two months..but, his intestines might get seriously damaged by him eating gluten..If he's doing better without gluten then why should he eat it.?? also doctors don't know much about celiac, just telling you in advance..
ps: i am celiac..and, doing ingredibly well :) :)

Thanks for your response. We don't know if my son is reacting to gluten because his symptoms at least so far appear not to be associated with any food in particular. (He can go a couple of months without any symptoms, but then be sick for two or three weeks straight.) The doctor wants him to go on a trial of a gluten-free diet, but unfortunately, we started it (at least semi-rigidly) before getting the CD panel done.
I am happy that you are doing so well!!
Best,
Pat

If he's not eat gluten or much of it, they will never find CD.. :) the problem with Intolerences is that we all don't react all the time..I to if I eat gluten by mistake im not gonna get sick..the problem is my intestines are getting damaged just the same..if he is sensitive to gluten then he must never eat it :)..its mostly pastries, bread, pasta,..etc those can be replaced with diferent grains.. :)
take care and, let me know :)
