Hi everyone,

I am new to this message board and in need of desperate advice or help anyone can give. I have been diagnosed with a chalazion awhile back. I've had it for about almost a year now. The lump is not getting any smaller, in fact it seems like it is now larger then it used to be. It is not painful in any way, but it makes your eye look distorted. I've read some information about it, but now it looks like my only option is to have it surgically removed. I am trying to avoid this option if at all possible. I've heard that if you just leave it alone, it will go away by itself even in 12-18 months ?? that's almost a 2 year span ?? at this point I am pretty desperate and helpless. I do not feel optimistic that it will eventually go away magically on it's own even after 1-2 years.... I am willing to wait it out if i know for sure that it will go away. Does anyone know how long chalazions generally last and if they will go away on it's own with time ? or any suggestions other then warm compresses ?? i've tried that also and it did not help resolve it. Or if anybody has gone through the surgical experience and can give me info on it, it'll be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I had one of these when I was a teenager. Its like a zit on the inside of your eyelid. I think I had it only a couple months, my mom told me to put hot compresses on it & that seemed to help it dissolve. But then one morning I woke up & it had made my eyelid swell shut. I was so scared! We went to the doctor & I had it surgically removed in the clinic. It didn't hurt thanks to the numbing drops. I haven't had a problem since.

Thanks for the info. i think i'm just going to go in and get it surgically removed. after almost a year, i've had no luck in getting it to dissolve. one last question for you. after you got it removed, was there any swelling or bruising on your eyelid, and if you did, how long did it last ? thanks. :)

Hi- the lid that they removed the cyst from did bruise to a nice dark purple, but thats about it. It didn't really swell up though. I think it went away after about a week. I wore glasses then so you couldn't see it too much. They gave me some sort of eye salve (?) that I was supposed to use, but didn't because I couldn't figure out how I was supposed to get it up into the inside of my eyelid. :rolleyes:

hi , i have had 2 chalazions 4 years ago , they were average size and after 1-2 years of antibiotic , sterdex , collyre treatments they get very small but now my eyelid is quite swollen and distorted
i advise u to have a surgery
