I just started taking B-Complex (by origin) because Ive heard such good things about it, and I needed to take something because I have a VERY low immune system, and I do not eat well at all. I just read on some websites though that you should take B-complex vitamens because its not good for you andcan actually make you more stressed and stuff. Does anyone know which is true?

As a long time alcohol abuser my doctor recommended B complex vitamin suppliments. It seems like every time I take one it increases my angziety (sp?) levels so I quit them for a while. Just today I bought a bottle of B50 vitamins and took one with dinner. I'm now jumpy as hell and would be reluctant to drive. No more B's for me.

well I do know that B complex is good for energy and helps beat stress. sounds like your jumpiness could be attributed to a hi energy drive due to the B complex...

Taking a B-Complex could give you extra energy (as it should). That
could be the reason you "feel" anxious. However, if you're deficient, you
need the additional B's. Try supplementing with 400mgs. of Magnesium daily.
Magnesium has a calming neuro effect. Hope that helps!

I think I may have to "dry out" a little more before I try anything else. The feeling I had last night felt like the onset of the DT's. Also I ate out last night and had coffee and may have inadvertantly had something with MSG in it. MSG makes me crazy. Thanks for the advice from all. I may try the Magnesium, on it's own in the interum. But no B's for a while.

The B complex vitamins help with stress because they are water soluble they should be taken in a timed released form. When you are under stress you use up your B Vitamins if they are timed released they can last about 8 hour. I know that when I drive my cat and get stuck in traffic I can get knocked out from the stress of it. I feel tired for no reason. But when I take my time released B’s I don’t get that way. B vitamins act like coenzymes of help assimilate nutrients from food. I take a high quality timed released B complex from Great Earth I have found that Solgar and Twin Labs don’t make them and I urinate the out in an hour or two ;)

Alcohol interferes with the metabolism of most vitamins, and with the absorption of many nutrients. Alcohol stimulates both urinary calcium and magnesium excretion. It is best to hold off on an alcoholic drink for several hours after taking your vitamins. Alcohol may hasten a supplement's breakdown in the stomach, perhaps interfering with absorption.
Vitamin B-12 is the energy booster, but your system can not digest B12 capsules to their fullest. B12 in pill form is usually only absorbed at less than 1%. Hence the injections or the sublingual (sp)
A B Complex vitamin is usually needed only for specific health reasons. A multi vitamin is just a good.
Vitamin B6, also known as Pyridoxine, is an essential vitamin to aid in the formation of healthy red blood cells and supports more vital bodily functions than any other vitamin. A water-soluble vitamin, Vitamin B6 is needed to release energy from the food we eat. It is always best to get your vitamins from natural sources...B6 can be found in natural food sources such as potatoes, bread, meat, fish, eggs, beans, bananas, nuts, and seed like sunflower seeds. Vitamin B6 is recognized for helping to maintain healthy immune system functions, for protecting the heart from cholesterol deposits as well as protecting your kidneys.
I do take vitamin supplements, but only after I have researched extensivly as to why I should be taking them. It's always better to get them from natural resources.

I would NEVER be without a B-Vitamin Complex. I usually take B-50's because they are so common but would take B-25's if readily available. I always add an extra 800 mg. folic acid (to fight arterial homocysteine.)
Alcohol drinkers have an extra reason for B supplementation because alcohol can cause it's damage by depriving the liver of certain B components.
So much of our processed foods have become denuded of their original B-vitamins.
I doubt there's ever been a case of B-vitamin poisoning and I'd rate them as perhaps the SAFEST thing in my medicine cabinet.

500mg of B-5 will also have a calming effect.

from my experience, the B-50 tablets are usually quite large. couldn't you just break one in half? that would be a way of getting B-25.

Most of the Bs aren't stored by the body and are excreted in urine. Stress depletes them rapidly as do non-healthy diets.
There are lower B-complex formulations than B-50. I use Source Naturals Coenzymated B-complex, sublinguals. Two tablets are the dose (which is lower than B-50s), and you could only take one if you wanted even lower amounts, so that's a good way to go. I take them first thing in the morning, when I need energy. If they increase your energy, I wouldn't take them at night!
