The surgery has definitely helped my grandma. I never would have thought a couple of weeks ago when she was acting so crazy on me in the hospital that she would improve so much a few weeks later. I guess more oxygen is definitely going to her brain (thanks to the pacemaker) and that is helping her condition. I stayed the weekend with her last weekend. She is still not her old self and never will be, but she was just soooo much better than she was while in the hospital. She was also so happy to be home (after her 3 week hospital stay!) and we were all very happy that she is home.

Like others have previously posted about your family members affected with this disease, she loooves sparkly, gaudy jewelry. A nurse at the hospital had given her a couple of Mardi Gras beads. She wore those beads all weekend like they were the most expensive of jewelry. She also had on a sparkly charm bracelet of hers, and she kept raising her arm up to her ear and shaking her hand--I guess so she could hear the charms clanging.

Anyway, tomorrow morning I am missing work again and getting up early to drive the 2 hrs to her house to take her to the doctor (the heart surgeon for a check-up). Hopefully, next weekend it will be someone elses turn. I love her so much and I want to do things for her and I know that it is wrong for me to feel this way, but I sometimes just get upset and feel like I am missing out on my life as a young person--seeing other people my age going to do fun things on the weekends and I am taking care of my GM. Then I get so mad at myself for even thinking this way because there is no way that I could live with myself knowing that I didn't help out. I love her so much and when I was growing up she did a lot for me and always loved me---so now is my chance to return the favor.

I hope that everyone else here is doing well---you are all such wonderful people. I know that God has many treasures in Heaven stored up for each of you. I hope you all have a happy weekend!

Love, J

Hi Glamourgal -

What good news about your Grandma!! I'm so glad the surgery helped her so much. What a blessing.

If she's living alone again, be sure to check her refrigerator often. My mom forgot how to cook properly and properly wrap and store leftovers. That was one of the reasons I moved her into an assisted living facility where I knew she'd have good food 3x daily.

Your mixed feelings of wanting to be 2 places at once is so normal. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Maybe you can play on Friday night and Saturdays and visit your grandmother on Sundays? Hope you find a way, because if your grandmother needs that much constant care, it's more than you can do and work and live your lifel

I hope others in your family will step in as they should and haven't. The person who has your grandmother's Durable Power of Attorney needs to be closely involved in her care.

Wishing you well - Barbara
