Just wondering if anyone has any experience with a child having an umbilical hernia and could offer any information. Our DS is 2 months old and he developed one about 2-3 weeks ago. It has gotten bigger over time (although it didn't start out very large and is only about the size of a large permanent marker) - that was the only thing I could think of that is the same size ;) He has an appointment to see his doctor today but I am just wondering if this is common, if it is common that it isn't there at first and then appears, if he will have to have surgery or what else they do to treat these?? questions, questions. thanks everyone

Hi, my 6 month old son has a umbilical hernia, he is actually going to see a suregeon this coming thursday, from what I have heard they are pretty common, he has had his since his umbilical cord fell out, but it is getting wider so his ped wants him to go see a surgeon. She said that they usually outgrow them by the time they are 4 or 5 but would feel better if the surgeon looked at it............good luck!
