can anyone tell me if theoretically theres any long term side affects with any of the various tests performed by nuero otologists under the name of ENG (or others)
for instance isnt there a laser aimed at the eye to measure movement in ENG testing?
any opinions/theories would be appreciated

Hi Patrick,

I've never heard of any long-term side effects from these tests. You might feel a lot worse (as I did) temporarily following the test but it clears up. Certainly never heard of the eye tracking being anything to worry about.

Hello Patrick,

I didn't have any effects from the eye tracking tests. I was a nervous wreck about the ENG test mostly because I was afraid I was going to vomit from being dizzy during the test. (I didn't). There is an increased amount of dizziness experienced during the test, especially with the hot water, but it subsides in about 1 minute. Afterwards I felt "drunk" for a few hours. I was given an Ativert (meclizine) to take after the test was over for the 1 hr. ride home. If I can do it, you can. I am the world's # 1 sissy! (LOL)
Good luck. Let us know how you make out and what they find.

Cheers,
Linda

Patrick:

As others have said it often stirs up symptoms, just because of the motion/stimulation of the ears, but there aren't any other known side effects of the tests.

Eye movements are usually measured by electrodes attached to your head next to your eyes, and they emit no signal, and are completly safe - the moving lights are not lasers. Some of the very modern machines do use lasers instead of electrodes, but they are certainly not the type/frequency which could cause damage to the eyes.

Agree with above. The tests stirred things for me and I felt rough for 2 weeks after but the effects are temporary.
