Hello, my name is Ashley and I live in California.

My Father Scott has had Diabetes since age 19, and let's just say he never followed doctor's orders, he drank soda's he wasn't suppose to, he ate foods he was told to stay away from, he never exercised, he missed his shots and hardly ever checked his blood surgars.

He was a good man, an announcer for ANRA for 30 years, won many national drag racing titles, was a DJ for KZAP back in the day, was an avid Rams fan and loved all sports played (besides soccer, don't ask...) but most importantly he was a good father, and I loved him.

Incase you have not caught on yet, I speak of my father in the past tense for, Scott died Jan 31st, 2005  . Let me share with you now, all that was wrong:

He had an awful bout of Gang green on his right foot, he lost it a year ago. about 4 months ago they told him he had it on his left foot but he was too weak to go under, and so they let it go. He had zero kidney function, and he "lived" in his bed literally rotting to death, while relying on his new wife and his child to care for him. Can you imagine?

I write this now simply as a reminder...

If you have family or if you simply value you life remember this!

Take care of yourself people! Live!

Thank your for posting. This should be a wakeup call for many diabetics.

Ashley,
My deepest sympathy on the loss of your father.

Sadly, many people struggle with the demands of taking care of their diabetes, and many of us slip up occasionally, some of us more frequently. Your message is a good reminder of what can happen when we don't take care of ourselves. Thank you for sharing and caring.

Ruth
