After taking Concerta 54mg for three years and switching over to Adderall XR 30mg about two years ago, I have slowly become addicted to the drug. I found myself taking higher and higher dosages, to the point where I truly worried myself. In a moment of clarity I would rip up my prescriptions and throw away the rest of my pills. I would be fine for about three weeks, but would begin craving the drug again after that, even having vivid dreams about Adderall. I would call my doctor and was very clever in getting new prescriptions and the process would start all over again.

While on Adderall it seemed to intensify all my addictions- I started smoking cigarettes again, would drink more, and looked at pornography on the internet for hours even though orgasm was nearly impossible. I have been reading quite a bit about the dangers of Adderall (or any Methamphetamine) and feel that the danger of the drug far outweighs any benefit to me.

I am not trying to say Adderall isn't good for many people, it just isn't good for me or I would wager anyone who has an addictive personality. I have a new baby daughter and want to be there for her.

I know that when my brother diagnosed, the doctor was hesitant to give him adderall because he tends to have an addictive personality. i think with people that easily become addicted to things, they try to stay away from methamphetamines because your body can develop tolerances and become addicted. i would suggest talking to your doctor about maybe slowly decreasing your dose so that you can eventually wean off of it? my doctor did tell me once that if i did ever want to stop it, it shouldn't be done cold turkey, although i forget the exact reasons why now...sorry!

I had an addictive, andrenalin, thrill-seeking personality. Adderall curbed most of that. But it had it's side-effects. Now I just use pure discipline and relaxation to "do what's right" and "think the right way." It's strange, but Adderall taught me how to think clearer, and now I try to reproduce that way of thinking without Adderall. Quitting caffeine, alchol, and eating very healthy helps me as much as Adderall.

I have an addictive personality and have found that Adderall does nothing to/for me. I don't have any problems with stopping it, and as a matter of fact haven't taken any for at least two months now. I have two bottles of it sitting in the cupboard and don't have the slightest inclination to take any. Although my psychologist and doctor seem to think I should take it, I don't see the purpose if I don't see any change in my ADD. I just feel it does absolutely nothing for me so why take it. Sorry to hear that you have trouble with it and good for you for recognizing the problem and facing it.

what are you addicted to? Do you have "lack of inhibitions" or act "impulsively"? Those are about the only two things I've observed in myself that is common with all other ADDers. Just "stopping" and then thinking about breathing helps me overcome both of those.
