Hope everyone is having one of there good days. I haven't written in awhile as I thought I was on the mend but the last few days has been bad and accompanied with new symptoms. I am writing to see wether anyone else suffers these symptoms. Here we go -

1 - Cracking sound when chewing in ear - damn thats annoying it puts you off eating.

2 - Ear pain not an ache but a sharp stabbing pain.

3 - Pain in corner of eye and side of nose.

4 - Pressure base of skull with tightness in temple.

All the above symptoms are worse upon movement.

5 - Dry nasal passages with slight bleeding and alot of post nasal drip in throat with like a clicking sound when swallowing- thats the best way I can describe it.

Thanks in advance

Evonne

PS - I was thinking along the lines of a sinus infection but I haven't got a cough or sneezing, so was wondering if you could have an infection without the cough and cold.

]Absolutely! [/U] Minus the nose bleed I have exactly what you describe. Sometimes I feel like I'm crazy, since it's something that no one can see and it's so hard to acuratley describe. Plus It's not like some run of the mill condition where you can say " oh, these are my symptons and they hurT" and the DR rx some pill to cure it, like an infection. That clicking in the ear is most likely from the eustachian tube opening/closing. there's not much you can do about it, at least I haven't figured it out yet. The ear pain is typical referral pain from the TM joint, to me it feels like a Q-tip's in too far or something, along with the ringing  I doubt you have any type of infection, I thought the same thing and have had taken the allergy route and antibiotic route with no success for a long time with a lot of differnt meds. I think you'll find many have what you've described and until the chief compliant is resolved these other "side effects" of it are likely to stay. I know it sucks but I just have not even heard of a fix for them. I guess as TMJ sufferers we're just special :) . The cracking sound ( crepitus) is most likely from bone grating. I actually recently suffered a small truama to my left TMJ and now it's even worse than my right (which is the one that has the advanced osteoarthritis). This typically occurs when the disc (meniscus) that cushions your joint it slipping out of place then back again causing a popping sound ( disc displacement with reduction) or is perforated, both of which are serious conditions. Mine are perforated in addition to disc displacemnt and the holes in them cause my bones to rub against each other all the while wearing down the bone and causing incredible pain in many areas in my face, all at the ripe old age of 25, good times. Hope I was some help, ****** a few of the terms I've listed and you should be able to find some good info for a greater understanding. After all, for people who suffer from what we have we can't afford not be highly educated about our conidition, as I'm sure you and the others on this board are aware we HAVE TO be our own advocate, we can't afford not to. Hope this helps some, hit me back if you have any questions. Take care and I hope you find some relief.

Eric

Burning poker pain in right ear. Sometimes it feels more like a twisting knife. Clicking in my right ear when I open, close, and swallow. Neck and occipital pain. This is a constant heavy ache that feels like fibromyalgia of the head/neck/upper shoulders. Behind the right eye and temple headache. Most everything is on the right side. Sometimes me jaw shifts/swings to the left (to get away from the right side).

In good phases, when I'm able to exercise, I hear my heart beating in my right ear. My right joint clicks if I do anything higher impact. My right ear gets stuffy like I'm in an airplane that's landing. I get dizzy and winded.

Sometimes my throat tightens and I gag on my food/drink or have a coughing fit. My inner ears itch and I scratch them with q-tips. I make clucking noises, which I'm unaware of until it's pointed out to me. I swallow/gulp heavily.

Interestingly, I do tend to have right nostril nosebleeds. And last night, I woke up from right canine pain (I was heavily bruxing on it). As soon as I awoke, my right nostril started gushing blood. Then blood started coming out of both nostrils--heavy clotted menstrual type blood. I don't know what's going on, or what to do about it, because I'm between dentists. My blood pressure is low/normal.

My worst symptom is the bruxism. Before I had restorations, the bruxing caused NO pain. But now, I can't sleep more than 90 minutes at a stretch without pain from bruxing on some high spot on my splint. I've had a zillion adjustments, but my dentist can't get it comfortable. So, I'm shopping for a new dentist. The sharp pains I get in the middle of the night from bruxing are usuallly much more intense than the fibromyalgia type pain I have during the day. The bruxing pain scares me. It feels like I'm yanking my teeth right out of their sockets. It takes my breath away. Then, I can't get back to sleep.

I'm like Pavlov's dog--over the past 5 years, all that bruxing pain has been negative reinforcement for sleep. I'm terrified of the havoc my nocturnal bruxism will wreak. I'm averaging 4 hours of sleep a night. I'm a walking zombie during the day.

I understand drugs are an option, but I'm afraid of getting hooked. I know that benzo withdrawal causes many of the symptoms I'm already having (insomnia, anxiety, sleeplessness, etc.) Even Flexeril does not relax my muscles/bruxing or help me to sleep. It just makes me feel like more of a zombie during the day.

:D

Thank you for your replies. They helped greatly that I am not on my own suffering these awful symptoms, even though I would wish that none of us having to suffer like this.

Today I feel a bit better with tightness to base of skull and neck. The shooting pains are still there but not hurting as much and my sinuses seem to be a bit clearer aswell.

I find when my symptoms are hurting I get really anxious which makes them 100% worse. I am taking 50mg elavil which seems to help abit with pain killers when needed.

I am having my CT Scan tomorrow for reassurance which is playing on my mind also, just in case they find something but I suppose if they eliminate anything serious it gets abit easier to cope with as you definitely know its TMJ causing our misery.

Thanks again for your replies
