I have had TMJ for years, had surgery by a maxiofacial surgeon, have a splint. My question is...I have been under quite a bit of stress in the last month and in the last week I have notice the top of my head hurts, feels very bruised and hurts to brush my hair. I have also noticed that I am totally clenching my teeth all day. Usually I would get sore temples, fullness in my ears and shoulder pain when I do this, but for some reason the top of my head really hurts....Anyone else ever have this??? Thank you......L

I have, but not quite to the extent you have. It's typically muscular in nature. Talk to your doc about low grade muscle relaxers, flexeril 5mg is a good one, just don't get the 10mg! It completely knocked me out, as it does most people. The 5mg is half as much but over 80% just as effective. It's usaully taken 3x a day everyday for tension and preventitive relief from muscle pain. I take it as needed though since I don't usually have muscle problems. What you're describing and what you're doing is classic, I'd really look into it because even with the best splint in the world if you're causing you're muscles to tense up and cramp it won't matter, and it's not like they'll just subdue and go back to the way they were when the stres and clenching stop. Good luck, hope I helped a little and that you find some relief.

Hello Susie..In all honesty, I came here tonite because it seems like the top of my head, on the right side is hurting. I was looking for maybe someone else w/ this symptom. I am new to TMJ and I am still not 100 % convinced that that it what I have. I am just paranoid by nature. Sometimes it is all of the top on that one side. Tonite it feels like just one stop. It annoys me and scares me too. I know I haven't helped you any. But just wanted you to know that I literally feel your pain....That was lame..LOL

ME TOO! I've been having pain on the top of my head and it hurts to brush my hair. I thought maybe I have a scalp infection, or my more paranoid theory is I have a brain tumor. LOL. I've had TMJ for close to 10 years now, it didn't occur to me that the pain on my head could be related to my TMJ. I have really terrible doctors because my insurance sucks so the most common response I get to any type of pain is, "it's all in your head." Sorry I can't be more helpful to your situation if only to let you know that you're not alone.
