View Full Version : Anyone notice any of these side effects?

Hi, I had Lasik done four days ago. So far I've liked it a lot, and I will be thrilled with it if these side effects go away:

-"Tired eyes": At the end of a long day my vision seems a little hazy if I go to watch TV or use the computer.
-Red spots: I have a big red spot on the white part of each eye. It doesn't affect my vision but it looks weird.
-Night halos: seem to be becoming less and less noticable, but it'd be great if they went away completely.

I know the night halos are somewhat common, especially at first, but I'm not sure about the other two. If anyone has any experience with any of these, could you let me know how it turned out for you? Thanks!

Duffman,
I found that the later it got into the day, the more tired my eyes would get. You have to remember that your eyes went through some drama and they aren't quite used to being able to see so well without the help of your glasses or contacts. The tiredness gets less and less as time goes on. I had my surgery one month and 3 weeks ago today and I don't really think I have an issue with eye tiredness anymore. I can't remember how long that lasted but, I did experience it at first.
The red *** is nothing to worry about. It is from the suction thing they put on your eye to make the corneal flap. That will go away. I can't remember for sure but, I think my doc said 6 weeks or longer and it will be gone. It may have been 6 months. If I get a chance later, I will check in my packet of info they sent home with me and see if I can find it anywhere in there. But, I do know that that is nothing to worry about.
I have had minor halos and glare since my surgery compared to the halo and glare I had before my surgery. And, even the halo and glare that I had post surgery has gotten better since I had it done. One thing that I noticed was that the halos and glare were worse the drier my eyes were. So, when you go out at night, make sure they are extra moist.
Enjoy your new sight and have no worries. All of the stuff you are experiencing is normal.

Hey,

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I'm glad to hear you experienced these also (well, not glad that you had side effects, but you know what I mean). I'm hoping the red spots go away soon, as I have a bunch of friends who have thought about getting Lasik. They see red spots in my eyes and assume that I'm in pain and/or can't see well. I don't think they believe me when I tell them that I haven't felt any pain since I woke up from my post-surgery nap.

To anyone else who is thinking about having it done, I'd say at least go in for a consultation if you can find one for free. If you're wondering about cost, I paid $3,600 for both eyes. This includes everything: appointments before the operation, appointments after the operation, and lifetime free enhancements if I ever need one. I'm 23, I'm now poor, but I can see.

Duffman,
I am glad I could help ease your mind. I found the info my doc sent me home with the day of my surgery. Here is what he says about the red spots, "You may observe "Red Spots" on the white of your eyes - especially under the lids. This is due to the microkeratome suction during Lasik and is NORMAL. These may take 2-6 weeks to dissipate."

I hope that helps and if your friends have questions, you can show them this or just qoute or paraphrase it for yourself!

the red spots may be from the suctation. as for slightly blurry vision, this happens when everyones eyes get tired, including mine. I see 20/30 in the day and 20/40 at the end of the day and thats with glasses
