hi ive just got back from the hospital after bad asthma attack. i had 4 nebs and have been given prednisolone (sp) 400mg for 3 days which will be finished on fri. am i able to drink alcohol on these as there is nothing in the leaflet which they came with.

I wouldn't mix alcohol and prednisone.

I wouldn't either that is the highest dose of prednisone i've ever heard of in my life......
let me just put it this way. think about the worst hangover you've ever had. times that by about.. 400. then you got how you will feel if you drink. yup... both mess with your blood sugar... not something you want to play around with.

sorry i meant 40mg per day lol. it got really bad again at 3 this morning so i was back up at the hospital for another 3 nebs :( thanks for your replys hope your all well xxx

as in one i use at home? i dont know but i wish they would because i hate having to go up to the hospital. maybe they cant just give them out i dont know. also they didnt check my peak flows at all either time i was there which i thought would have been somthing they would have done before letting me out? i was also half expecting to be admitted so it was nice to hear that i could go home instead!

I have a neb I use at home. It's a pain in the butt, but it sure beats having to go to the hospital everytime I get bad. Downfall is now my doctor expects me to be able to do trreatments whenever she wants me to.

i wish i could have one at home! my dad has one but he has severe asthma and doesnt live with us. i dont think mine is bad enough for one though.

If it is bad enough that you have to keep going into the hospital for treatment, then it is bad enough. Call your doc and ask him if you can get one and if your insurance will cover it.

I got my neb before I ever was in the hospital with an asthma attack. I kept going to my doctor and my breathing was never better, so they kept giving me neb treatments there, so when I was there every week or so, they prescribed one for home. I would have never been in the hospital with asthma, except when I had the one attack that did land me in the hospital, I was away from home and didn't have my neb.

maybe ill mention it next time i see my asthma nurse. i rarely go to the hospital for my asthma mainly because i hate it so much up there and hope that it will pass on its own. my doctor's dont have a nebuliser i live in the UK and they just send me up to the childrens hospital for a neb.

I too have asthma and also live in the UK. I personally have been given excellent treatment for my asthma problems at the general surgery I attend. I am with the others on this, I just don't understand why you have not been given a nebuliser on prescription for home use. You say that you go to the children's hospital. Does this mean you are under 16 years old? Surely at this age you are entitled to free prescriptions.
Something is drastically wrong if you have to go out to the hospital every time you are ill. Can you not call the doctor out? He can then see for himself how bad you are, and then your parents can ask him for a nebuliser for use at home for you.
I hope you can sort something out.

How often do you get sick enough to need a neb, if it isn't that aften then you may not need a neb at home. If you are only needing the odd neb when you get sick then it is probably not necessary, if you are needing one every week, then definately ask for one and fight for it. It is definately worth talking to your asthma nurse about. I live in the UK too and had a free neb on the nhs for years before i bought my own.

hi thanks for all your replys. i only need nebs when i get sick if i have a cold/flu, or have been excersing too hard etc. goldenwings, yes i am under 16. i am now feeling much better than i was and am just waiting to get rid of this awful cough and hoping that my chest wont be sore for much longer *fingers crossed*.
