View Full Version : Question about prescription after hospital discharge

Hello all- I am having my second laminectomy in 3 months this Friday. It was my understanding that after the first surgery I would get a script that would last me until my first follow up appt. Well my fist appt was 10 days after discharge (my dr has office hrs on tues and thurs only) and the resident at the hospital wrote me a script for 40 percocet.(1-2 every 4-6 hours). This was not nearly enough. This time around, I plan on asking the resident for more so I do not have to call in a refill, thus also avoiding having to pick the script up from the dr office (WAY too difficult)! Is this out of line? Can anyone tell me what they were sent home with after a laminectomy at L5-S1 and how long they had to wait for their first post op appt?? Any input would be appreciated!!!!

Dunno if your surgeon is local to you.....I had my doc mail me an Rx, got it the next day - but it wouldn't hurt to ask, as you've mentioned.

Good Luck with your surgery on Friday;)

Mine sent me home with a prescription for 50 and I called for a refill after a week or so. The prescription had to be mailed to my pharmacy. They said they don't do more than 50 because they hope you won't need more than that plus maybe one refill - the goal is to get off the medications. I'm almost out of mine and my first post op appt isn't for 2 more weeks. I'm not sure what I'll do when I run out - hopefully, I won't need anymore. Good luck with your surgery!
