Hi all...newbie alert!!,
I am so sick and tired of interrupted sleep, and not being taken seriously about my abdominal pain I have finally reached a point where I have to find out what the problem is, and how I can appease it.
It started about 15 years ago, in my first relationship, where I would be awoken with accute pain in my lower left abdomin in the night...3-5 hours after going to bed. Not a sudden pain...but a kind of build up to the point it is too painfull to lie down any longer. I tolerated this for a few years, untill I plucked up the courage to go to the doctors..who was very pleasant, but I don't think I really expressed how bad this was. The main reason being during the day I have no pain at all....once I have been up for a few hours and been to the loo maybe a couple of times...with diahorrea. But then I am fine until the next night.
It was suggested I have IBS and advised to add roughage to my diet, but to me that sounded a bit of a cop out, and went back and had a Barium Enema. This apparently showed no problems...and at this point I didn't return.
Now I am living in Spain, and throughout the years I have had exactly the same problem. I have kind of got used to it over this time...and tried to accept it as part of my life..but I am so unhappy. Over the last 3 years I have drunk a lot to lift the down I have on myself, but have been clean now for the last 2 months. I never feel that I get enough sleep...although my stomach doesn't pain me during the day I feel tired..seem to have a low level headache constantly and just feel pretty low.
I think also I have not come forward to others to approach the subject as I had a problematic childhood...sexual abuse...and am embarrased that this may be related, and although I don't have a problem with that any longer, its not really the sort of thing that I want to talk about!!
I have searched on the internet for others..but cannot find anything that has the same night only symptoms as me. If I can get any clues, I can maybe approach a doctor again, or find some way to feel better.
If anyone has any ideas where I should start to diagnose myself, I would be so gratefull....
