Hi, sorry to go on as i have been posting to try and find out what might be wrong with me. Doc has given me no idea what could be wrong. Have had 2 lots of strong anti biotics and have aneastetic cream (that does not work) Have has diarrhea on and off for about 18 motnhs now, have had a very very sore butt for about a year. At Christmas i took my self off to the hospital as i could not take pain anymore, i have such a sore swollen rectum,( the perreneum) i need to pooh about 4 times a day every single day. (used to be once a day if lucky) i now have bowel urgency so if i dont get to the loo i will do it in my pants, i also pass wind badly , doc has booked me in for an emergency colonscopy yesterday, but the hosp cancelled it, saying they have decided to do an audit. I am now finding blood on tissue (3 or 4 times) i am in agony i have already waited 3 months for the procedure, , it is always the rectum area, doc could not feel any lumps inside nor a prolapse. the thing is i now have to wait another five and a half weeks for my colonscopy and am terrified it could be bowel cancer. Altogether i would have waited 4 months for the colonscopy which ifeel is very bad. As the day goes on i swell up more and more and the pain and aching feeling down there gets worse and worse and worse until sometimes i cry, i sit in the chair on my hip as it is too painful to sit on my butt, then i have to go to bed and lay down to take the pressure off completely. If i cough or shout if feels like my inside are going to shoot out. It is always the rectum the is red, inflamed, swollen and sore, and when i pass a motion it is agony it makes me cry... does this sound like procitis, i have looked up the symtoms and it does sound similar.

It sounds like proctitis to me. I have had it for 5 years, but my symptoms are much milder than yours. Do you ever have normal bowel movements? My symptoms started with diarrhea on and off with normal bowel movements in between and then my bowels got really thin, (pencil, ribbon thin) and then there was no form at all to them for over 1 year and then I started experiencing extreme fatigue and muscle weakness. That's when I got serious about telling my doctor about my bowel problems. The first colonoscopy showed an inflamed rectum and the biopsies revealed "chronic inflammation" on all biopsies taken throughout the colon. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, but the "visual" disease is only in my rectum. I have never had blood except for blood from an anal fissure which is very painful and took forever to heal. Every bowel movement hurt when I had the anal fissure.

I just got another colonoscopy last week and it still showed inflammation in the rectum, but I don't experience any pain anymore. The main concern with me is that the "chronic inflammation" can turn into dysplasia and then cancer. I don't believe that my ulcerative colitis will progress and worsen, I am just worried about the cancer risk.

I hope you get a colonoscopy soon and get on medication. I can't believe the hospital would deny you that. Has the doctor checked for anal fissures (tears)? It's common in proctitis.

Hi invisible 1234, well i went back to the doc as i was in sooooooo much pain, she has now put me on a really really strong antibiotic,(augmentin) and also anti inflammatories. She said i have an infected skin tag, there is a lump about the size of a kidney bean with inflammation spreading about the size of a mushroom. She now suggests i have the lump cut away. She said there is nothing she can do about my date and i will just have to wait,.the trouble i have now (sunday night) i have just been to the loo and am losing bright red blood on the tissue, i have had a bit of spotting before but this was a lot of blood. I am now scared. They say i still have to wait for my appointment, it is so unfair. can i be personal and ask did you get a sore around the entrance to the anus and it hurt to wipe when you had been to the loo, mine also itches. Thanks

I had the itching and soreness but never the blood that you have. I was going to the bathroom about 10 - 15 times a day and that's probably why I had those symptoms.

Do you ever have rectal pain where it feels like you have to have a bowel movement, but you sit on the toilet and you really don't have to go? I had this for several months. The rectal pain was a pain of 10 on a scale of 1-10 for me. It would wake me up at night and last at least 1/2 hour.

Did the doctor give you topical medicine or do you take it orally?

I go to the loo about 4 times a day everysingle day. not diarrhea.??? I have pain because i am so sore, my skin is raw. I also itch a lot and rub this with toilet paper. i do sometimes get the feeling like i want to go and cant' but not a lot, i also get the feeling sometimes that i have not finished going. i get this terrible ache in my butt and it spreads across the check of my bum. the doc says this is the imflammation spreading from the infected lump but this aching is just ssssssoooooooo painfull, and i also get a terrible terrible stinging all the time. it really feels like having injections in your anus. The doc gave me some cream, it is meant to be an aneastetic but it did not do anything at all apart from sting/ LOL i am now on an antibiotic called Augmentin. i have been told that this is the strongest i can have?? and am on anti inflammatories to reduce the inflammation. I am scared now this bleeding has started, do you have much bleeding, sorry to be nosy.

I had just a little blood on the toilet paper.

I hope you get your symptoms under control. With my mild disease, the only pain I have ever had is the pain from the anal fissure every time I had a bowel movement, which lasted a couple of months and I still get that rectal pain that comes and goes, but that is a much higher pain than the anal pain.
