Hi all. I have had a swollen groin lymph node since May of last year. I was told be 2 dr. it was nothing, but then about a month or so ago, I found a small pea size bump in my left under arm area. I have issues with bouts of itching and have awoken on 3 occassions or so extremly sweaty. I am 31 years old, and will have the groin node biopsied under local this coming Wed. 3-16. What should I expect from this procedure, and is the recovery quick? Pain etc. I really feel I am not sick, but some of the things I've read can be scarey. Any advice or excperiances would be greatly appreciated.

Pea sized lymph nodes are normal and only become an issue if they begin progressively to grow. They might indicate current infection, or be collateral from a previous infection. Nodes in the groin are especially common, since they drain the whole leg. They can be caused by scrapes to the knee, verrucas on the foot or any other infection. They are not considered abnormal until they are at least 2cm in diameter. Because they are so common, doctors are usually reluctant to biopsy persistent groin nodes, even if lymphoma is suspected following a CT scan (cervical biopsy is more reliable).
