I posted the in depth intro on the resection roll if you would like more background.

My son had the Duhamel pullthrough August 2002 at 4 months of age (he has Hirschsprung's). He is now 2 yrs and 11 months of age and shows no signs of bowel control. For 1 BM we can go through 8 or more diapers since he goes a little bit every 15-30 minutes (hershey kiss size & soft). Unless he has a virus he never has a normal size BM.

He is on the lowest dose of miralax, yet to go off of it he tends to get impacted. He has a bowel friendly diet, yet goes through bouts of belly aches and decreased eating (while still having BMs so not constipation or impacted).

Aside from the miralax, I do massage and reflexology with him. This is how we managed to get him off of pain medicine and keep him comfortable for the most part.

I have a gut feeling that he doesn't have normal control. When I smell him going I will ask him to push the 'poopy' out and he looks like he is trying, then he says "I can't mommy". Once a BM got stuck and while he was laying down with the diaper open I asked him to push it out and while his face and belly showed he was pushing...the BM didn't budge. This only happened once, but it makes me wonder if this is what is happening everytime.

Does anyone have any advice? The duhamel resection- how does it rank with bowel control?

TIA!
