Good luck :)
Thanks! It did not go well at all!!! As soon as I mentioned my periods were becoming "irregular" she wanted to go the ultra sound route to check for fibroids. I left so frusterated as I know this will cost a lot of out of the pocket money. She said that is her first step and then she will test the hormones. The only good thing that came out of it was I got a script for Triluma for the Melasma another lovely symptom I have. Now I have to wait another two weeks for the Ultra Sound. When will Doctors Listen????
I have run through 4 gyno's in my town looking for one that listens, I am running out of options.

Hi Bell,
Sorry about your gyno checkup! Gez, does this mean when a woman starts having irregular periods, it means fibroids?? Do you not have insurance to cover this stuff? If you don't and you're asking to be tested for peri which means more costs to you, keep in mind that there are no tests that will tell you that you are in "pre" or "peri-menopause". During peri-meno, you just get "symptoms" so all your hormone tests will probably come back normal. This is what happened to me.
The only time you will get some kind of out of normal range test results are when you are in menopause or post-meno. You will know when you're heading that direction - first you have to not have your periods for several months straight...at least 4-6 mos. and then I bet you will see a difference - until then, all your tests will probably be normal. You might want to wait. Mine changed drastically within a 6-month period.
Don't you know many drs. don't know boo about menopause stuff? I found I learned more from these boards and from other women who have gone thru it.
Isn't Melsama a facial skin thing? Why would a gyno give you a script for that? vs. a dermo? Also, check out the Triluma site - you can get a $25 rebate for the med. I find some scripts give rebates, i.e., I get $15 rebate every time I get my allergy eye drops (cost me $20 to fill). IMO, anyway to save a buck helps!
Have a good weekend,
molly

I have very heavy periods and had an ultrasound....fortunately, I didn't have to pay. It showed a couple fibroids and a thickened uterine lining. She did a biopsy of the uterus and it came back clean. I just started BC pills to help with the bleeding.

OMG did that hurt? The Biopsy that is? She said mine hadn't changed in size since last year and that she thought that was a good sign? I go on the 22nd.
The Melasma, You need a script for Triluma. I was so happy about finally being rid of this stuff then my Pharmacy calls and tells me my insurance won't pay for it and it's 93 dollars! He also told me he didn't think it was a permanent solution, in other words you need more than one tube down the road. Wish I knew about the rebate before I told them not to fill it. I take so many other meds the thought of adding a 93 dollar one seemed a bit overwhelming.
I had ONE irregular period and mine aren't heavy. I told her I didn't think it warrented a Ultra sound but she said this was her protogol to follow?
Being a women sure can stink sometimes.
