I am posting this thread after just joining this site. I have had a VERY painfull 5 months with not many answers. I woke up in the middle of the night on Nov 4th with severe pain in my right flank right below my rib cage. I went to the doctors the next day and suggested and ultrasound. I felt better an blew it off. I went on vacation and on the 27th of Nov, I experienced and extreme amount of bright red blood in my stool. (hardly any stool, all blood sometimes) This went on for 4.5 day's straight. I went back to see my doctor as soon as I got home on Dec. 1st. They immediately sent me for a Barium Enema with xray's and bloodwork. Next was the ultrasound. Same thing, no answers. At this time the pain was very severe and still just in my right flank. Test's revealed that I had a high ALT level (fatty liver) and kidney stones in left kidney that were small and no one seemed concerned. Pain continued and I went for a CT scan with no results and referred to Gastroenterologist. During this time, it was stated that I had an enlarged spleen (18cm) as well. I went for a colonoscopy where 4 polyps were found to be in a "pre cancerous stage" Now on to more specialists. Went in to Beth Israel in Boston and scheduled an endoscopy. many biobsy's were taken and again came back to be in a "pre cancerosus stage" Discovered that I have Esophogitis and Barretts disease. Treating those symptoms with Protonix and acid seems much better but the pain is still there and has evolved in left side and lower abdomen over last month and a half. Now I have a liver mri scheduled but it is definitely taking a toll on me mentally. Should I be requesting that I get a liver biopsy as well? Any type of feedback would be extremely helpfull at this point. Thank you for takin the time to read this and let's hope we can all get answers to the problems for which we are posting.

Have you been tested for gall bladder problems? If i was you i'd wait for the results of the mri before asking for a liver biopsy. No sense in putting you thru anymore tests than you have to have.Take care

sorry I forgot to mention that they did look at the gb but not intensly and by itself. It was looked at through both ultrasounds. I just received a second us but this time wtih "dopplers". Mainly checking the blood flow from liver and spleen. I was not sure how much more informative if at all the liver biopsy woud be. Thank you for the response
