I have a 6 1/2 month old daughter and she has been eating solids for about a month. she has tried all the stage one foods. i was wondering what types of food others are feeding their babies at this age and how much and how often.
Thanks

i kinda wonder this myself.. Does your baby sit well by herself? If so you should put her on level 2 foods. Thats what the gerber website says. My daughter will be 9 months old on the 28th of march. She eats 6oz bottles every 4 hours. I give her 1 jar of level2 baby food mixed with 3 tablespoons of oatmeal for breakfast, 1 jar of veggies for lunch and 1 jar of meat for dinner

anyone think i should be feeding her more?

thanks for the reply- she can sit up in her highchair, but not unsupported. I give her two tablespoons of cereal and a 1/2 jar of stage 1 fruit for breakfast and 2 tablespoons and 1/2 jar of veggies for dinner. I don't feed her at lunch, I guess I should start. She was a month early, so she didn't even start eating anything until a month ago. she is a big girl though at 17lbs already and 28 inches long.

thanks for your help

My son is also 6 1/2 months. I know every dr thinks something different but my dr told me that he should be getting between 16 and 20 ounzes of formula a day and to adjust his food according to that. He said that if he is getting more that 20 oz then he is hungry and to feed him more. I just switched him to stage 2 foods so he is eating a little less than he was. A typical day for him is oatmeal and 1/2 jar fruit for breakfast. 1/2 jar of veggies & 1/2 fruit lunch and same for supper.. sometimes he will eat a full jar at lunch just depending on the mood he is in. He weighed 17lbs at his 6 month checkup, I was worried about him eating too much but the dr said that weight was fine...hope that helped

wow - that is only 3 six ounce bottles a day, my daughter is drinking 4 five/six ounce bottles a day and 1 four ounce bottle a day. I didn't realize that was so much. how many feedings (bottles) do you give your son and how many ounces. thank you for replying my daughter was also 17 lbs at her check up

The most he will eat at one feeding is 6oz, so he gets one in the morning, afternoon, and before bedtime. And he gets food at breakfast, lunch and supper. Of course if he acts like he is hungry I will give him another bottle. He never gets less than 16oz but somedays he does get more than 24oz, it just depends on what kind of mood he is in..

Um, what am I supposed to do? My 5 and a half month son drinks 5 - 8 oz bottles of formula a day, and sometimes I give him a little cereal if he's hungry in between. I told the dr I thought he was drinking too much but he said not to worry at all. Well now I'm worrying because I don't know how to start feeding solids properly, and how to get rid of some of that formula. He has a full bottle every 3 hours, from 9am - 9pm!!! He also weighed only ounces short of 20 pounds at his 4 month visit! He was overdue and is quite large, as opposed to fat. He also has 2 teeth, which he got at 4 months.

Oh, and his pediatrician says "No solids yet".

kitkat, don't worry. every baby is different. and every doctor is different. i would just try slowly introducing solids at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. and maybe an 1/2 an ounce to an ounce less at each feeding until you find what works for you. one of the pediatricians told me to give a few ounces of water in a bottle to hold off some hunger. i don't know if anybody else recommends or tried this. but i give my daughter a mixture of 2 ounces water and 1 ounce pear or white grape juice in the afternoon. today was actually the first day she ate 1/2 jar for lunch and only had 4 feedings instead of 5 or so. good luck

Hi ladies,

My daughter is 7 months old and I've just started her on the stage 3 foods. Her doctor told me in the first year, its the formula thats most important and the foods are really only an introduction to foods and getting the baby used to chewing and swallowing thicker foods. I give my daughter 1 jar of stage 2 foods at noon and a half jar is about all she can manage of the stage 3 around 6pm. I have found that the 6pm feeding stops her from drinking a night time bottle and Im wary about that. Looking at the jars nutrients information, I'd prefer her to take the bottle, but it does make her sleep throught the night and my selfishness takes over there  Still, shes like a little chunky monkey with those enormous thighs, so Im not worried about her :D

My 6 month old little girl was just at the doctor on Monday. They told me to start try the baby foods with like Apples and ham. Try meat now. She said babies usually like it mixed with something like apples. She also said that she could eat some mashed potatoes, a****dos,or sqausih. Then 7-9 months as long as she can pick up food with two fingers and thumb. Then she is ready for like pieces of bannas, peas or things like that. They told me to start her on three meals a day. She gets a bottle with each meal. She also get a couple between. She weighed 16lbs 12 oz. She is average for her age.
