I'm getting frustrated with my symptoms and hope that some of you can share your initial symptoms with me. My right gland in my throat is swollen and has been consistantly for the last seven months. There is a lump inside my throat on that side as well. It is always swollen and bothersome. It does not hurt, but it is irritating and almost throbbing at times. It seems to get worse if I drink any amount (even very small) of alcohol. It gets better if I take cold medicine or allergy meds.
My Dr. said it is just allergies. I have had allergies my whole life and have never experienced this.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and God bless.

Hi, I have noticed the last couple of days that the left side of my throat is really sore. My left lymph node is really sore and swollen. I really think you should go to another doctor to have it checked out just in case, chances are your doctor is right but it wouldn't hurt to have a second opinion. I will problably go to the doctor tomorrow, if I do I'll let you know what happens. Becky

Definitely get it checked out!! I've had the same type of lump. I've had it for about 4 months, been through all kinds of tests, a needle biopsy and now thursday I have to go for an excisional biopsy since the needle biopsy came back as "inconclusive". Meaning they didn't have enough tissue to tell what it was. Mine sits right on top of my carotid artery, there is a slight chance it might be a squamous cell carinoma. I'm praying it's not!!

Here's a few things to consider and be cautious about. Is the lump painful or not??? Usually painful masses mean infection. Is it fixed in place or movable?? If it's movable that's a good sign. It means it's not adhered to surrounding tissue and could just be a lymph gland from an old infection. I was put on 3 round of antibiotics too. If that doesn't help (which it didn't) an infection is ruled out and then they start thinking it could be a malignant mass.

Don't waste time worrying. It's better to be cautious and to have peace of mind than to let something possibly serious become worse or be overlooked.

Good luck, and take care,

Hey Everyone
Ive had a swollen and very sore gland on the left side of my neck since the beginning of Dec. I got what I thought was a sinus infection or head cold around X-Mas and went to the Dr. She gave me 10 days of antibotics,875mg 2x day. Well, the gland pain and swelling really never went away. Size of grape and doesn't move that I can tell....any suggestions? Help!
