I had a sphintorectomy (sp?) 3 weeks ago to get rid of a fissure. Everything has been fine and dandy; the pain is gone!! I'm willing to go back to the gym and was wondering if anyone thinks this could irritate it again? Any advice is appreciated! Thank you

I had the surgery last year. It took me about 6 weeks for the fissures to totally heal, although the doctor said they were healed at the one month mark.

I still have rectal spasms, but thos don't interfere with working out.

I'd say it's safe to go do some upper body stuff, but I would wait at least another month before you start running or doing heavy leg exercises.

He told me stay on the stool softeners for 3 weeks, thats why I figured now is the time to go back to the gym? How long did you stay on the softeners for? (if at all)

I was on stool softeners for almost 5 months, but I've been off them for about a month now.

TooheyNew... As Chiggins noted. It is probably okay to do some upper body workouts, but it may be too soon to add too much strain to the lower body. Give it some time and adjust your workout schedule accordingly. Don't over do it.
