Hello All
I'm glad to say i am starting theorpy this week and hope will ease the anxiety and pain i've been living in, mentally that is. I know there is a test your doctor can order for you which is expensive to find out your HIV status before the 3 months...does anyone know the name of it, and maybe the cost. This uncertainity and wait is just to agonizing and i feell like i can't begin to heal mentaly as i have that in the back of my mind.
Thanks always for your help everyone

p.s. is a 6 week test encouraging? statistically?

Six weeks is encouraging but not completely reliable. They say that on average, people test positive within 25 days. That kept me going until the 3-month mark, where I got tested again. 3 months = 97% accurate, 6 months = 99.9 %

I wish you the best :) hang in there.

Thanks for your response! You have had nothing by kind words and believe it or not it makes all the difference in the world.
I guess i will go on my 6th week, that will be SO scary, how did you get through it? I swear i could the days and they go by so slow, 3 months seems years away.
Thanks for your advice and i wish you nothing but the best as well :)

I actually got really worried about 2 months after my last possible exposure, so the 6-week mark had already elapsed. But it didn't really make any difference since I'm a huge worrywart and basically went overboard. I got tested at the 2-month mark and then my concern was that I should really get tested at 3 months. So I did that. And I was negative again, and now I am like "Well I should get tested at 6 months to be absolutely certain" so now that test is coming up in about a week. My family thinks I'm insane but you're better safe than sorry, you know?

So far how I have gotten through the long periods of waiting for tests and results is just praying constantly, spending time with people that I love who love me, trying to keep a positive mental attitude and going to this site and others for support. It is really tough and I don't think I'll ever shake the guilt or forgive myself for making such a moronic mistake that is so easily avoided, but I am hoping for the best.

We all make mistakes and to that we are human :) even with a rapid test if a positive result does occure a 3 month test with an (ELISA) and a follow up with a (WESTERN BLOT) is the final answer. For you're own sanity (AND I KNOW ITS VERY HARD) wait the 3 months and get tested a negative at 3 months is usaly the most conclusive at 97% accuracy .
Good luck......

You're right a positive additud is what i need to start working on.
I plan to go for my 6 week test, i will pray to God till then that it may all be ok. I'll pray for you as well so that you may finally put all this behind you.
I look forward to the day that i can do the same.
Thanks for all your support, you really have no idea how much you've helped. I can use all the help i can get and this board has been very helpful. I'll keep what you said in mind, positive thining, prayer and at this point leave it to god, thats all i can do :)

You can get a PCR test, but its pointless.. Doc wont even think about doing that unless you are positive.

IT checks for Virus it self. .... Ask your doc to do a lympocyte panel.

It will show your B cell and T Cell..

But this early that is pointless as well.
