Hello! I will be leaving in a few hours for surgery. I now have to stay until Friday at Shands since I have an infection in my body, but NOT from my implants. So I will get back online as soon as I am feeling better. Thanks For ALL the SUPPORT!!!!!!!

Tandy,
This is Gena, Shirlett's daughter. My mom asked me to post and let you know how she was doing. She just got out of surgery 5 1/2 hrs (one of the better ones I would have to say) she is fine, but they did not put a new implant in. All they did was take the left side out and wire her mouth shut. Witch means another surgery sometime in the near future. Thank you so much for your prayers and support.

Thank you so much Gena. I'm sorry to hear they didn't put the implant in, but at least she's out of surgery! I'll be thinking about her during these next few days. I know how hard it will be.

Hey Tandy,
I am home and NOT HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tested positive for a Bacterial Infection and my implants on the left side did not look right so they took everything out. The GOOD NEWS is there is NO infection within my implants so I can now have a CT SCAN and have the left side put back in I hope within the next 6-8 weeks. My left Fossa will have to be remade but everything else can be reused. I am just so upset that they felt they needed to take them out and I know he had to make a very difficult call taking them out, I have it first hand that he did not want to take them out and him making the call made my surgery go longer than scheduled. So I am wired for the next three weeks and have NO movement at all. Pure Liquids. Not fun. I will be in touch. Sleep..Sleep that is all I want to do right now.

Oh Shirlett, I am so sorry to hear all of this. You must be in excrutiating pain, plus depressed about the results. At least you didn't have the infection. So, when will they go back and put the joints in? Soon I hope. I can't imagine you function well with no joints, plus you don't want scar tissue to form, right? So, in 3 weeks are they going back in? Keep me posted. I am praying for you and thinking of you.

Hey Tandy,
I did not even cry this much when I lost (FOREVER) what was left of my real joints. I feel like I have been crying forever over losing a fake one. I can not explain the loss I feel and why losing a fake one makes me feel this way. They said my mandible had settled in so well that it had to be pried and chisled off my bone under it. That made me feel so wonderful!!!!!! If I had not been showing the bacterial infection I know they would have left it alone but it just maked me sick to my stomach that they took the other parts out. I hope to find out on Monday when I can begin to go throught the rituals of getting ready for implant surgery. I will keep you posted. THANKS for all your support!

I just wanted to update you and anyone else reading these post. I am leaving here around 2:00 a.m. to head back to Shands to get my mouth unwired. Yesterday, I had to make a decision and at this time I have decided to post pone anymore "treatment". No more surgeries ect for at least a year. I will keep the implants in on my right side and just do with what I have for now. I am going to go home for a month or so and spend time with the Indian Healer and try to treat my body for a year or so and then make a decision regarding have the left side put back in. At this moment I just cannot see having another surgery in four weeks then in 10-12 months having another to put the implants back in. If I do not get my body to heal then I will just continue to have problems. I will check in on Friday with you.

Hi Shirlett. I'm glad to hear that you've made some decisions. I hope today goes well. It will be hard for the year, but I think you are probably better off. Why have surgery now to have to go back in in a year? Is it possible to live without a joint for that long? I'm sure with everything you've gone through, you've had to do it in the past. But, for a whole year? It's scary, but I'm sure you're doing the right thing. Having had open joint surgery myself, I know how that initial week feels.
I'm doing very good and it's sweet of you to ask, considering all you're going through right now. We think the surgery was successful. I go back in in a week for my 2 month checkup. The only bad thing right now is we found out we won't be moving down there. The man my husband was supposed to trade jobs with doesn't want to do it now. But, I had a lot of fun dreaming and planning for it. I'll just have to settle for vacations for now. We're going on a cruise in September, so I have that to look forward to. I should be released to chew on Aug. 1, so I'm sure I'll be gaining weight on the ship. :)
