I went to a chiropracter today to see if he could relieve some of my pain. My jaw is swollen and it hurts when I touch my TMJ. I have splitting headaches at least 3 times a day, with ear-ache like pains, numb teeth and limited opening of my mouth. I am new to this, (its only been 2 weeks of having these pains) but I did have my wisdom tooth extracted about a month ago, along with a minor car accident a few weeks after that.
Well, my Chiropractor said, from what he saw on the x-ray, that I have moderate to severe arthrtitis in my jaw and it was a good thing I didnt see the TMJ specialist yet because they couldnt do anything about it. Does this sound like someone trying to get my $$ or what?
I called my Dentist and she said that often TMJ and arthritis go hand in hand and not to worry, that the splint I should be getting fit for would help alot. What do you guys think? I cannot take this pain anymore and am SO frustrated. I dont know what Ill do if I cant get to feeling better soon...or at least have some hope!

Did you get your splint? Is it helping? What kind is it? If anyone else has had good results with a splint and has arthritis and disc problems, I'd love to hear from you.

i have arthritic tmj and i use a dehumidifier which reduces the swelling of the jaw. also, i have a magnetic pillow pad which helps alot. when the muscles are sore use analgesic rub.
