View Full Version : wish me luck on my colonoscopy

Well wish me luck everyone :)
I am going in tomorrow for my first colonoscopy.
I will be having the twillight sedation.(sp)
I must say so far the prep is the worst. its the taste of the fleets soda that makes you gag. I cant believe this stuff is legal.
my only fear is feeling any pain durign the procedure..
I've had sigmoidoscopes and those are painful, But I was never sedated with them either.
So I'm hoping with the sedation my experience will be less intense.
thanks for listening

Good Luck!

I just had one last week and slept like a baby throughout the entire procedure. The twilight sedation along with the oxygen makes you feel really good :)

Are you already done with the prep? I had to get up at 4:00 a.m. and take a second dose. How disgusting!

I have to drink fleets soda
once at 5pm and the second dose at 7pm.
So I'm due right now to drink the rest of the junk
its so hard to get this stuff done..
I found what helps is I suck on a popsicle inbetween as I'm drinking the fleets soda. Helps numb the taste buds a bit
so far though It hasn't realy made me go to the bathroom too bad, YET!!!!!
I cant wait to get this done with
talk to you soon

How did your colonoscopy go?

it went well,
I was out like a light in 10 seconds flat. my colonoscopy took about 20minutes and he took some tissue samples.
when I was all done I just rested all day. I was pretty dizzy and light headed on and off thru out that day and took about 20 cat naps :)
the day after I'm a little crampy to my stomach and I'm able to eat.
But all and all I'm getting my strengh back and I'm glad I got this over with and I have a appointment with the my surgeon later this week to discuss my lab result on the tissue samples he took...
Thanks for asking about how I was doing :)
I must say the only thing that hurt me was the IV...
Have you had your consultation yet with your doc?
Talk to ya soon Pam

Glad it went well for you, your experience sounds just like mine...the prep and the IV are the worst part!

Hey ljturner,
Did you get your test results back from your GI doctor yet..
Did they find something ??
I went for colonoscopy for the same symptoms that you had posted about.
I had a sigmoidoscope at my family doctors office and he diagnosed me with ulcerative colitis.
He put me on asacol 3 pills 2x a day.
I was still extremly inflammed and I am always tired and my muscles and joints ach like arthritis.
So I had to have an colonscopy to get a true diagnose of Crohns, or colitis.
I write back when I find out what my diagnosis is.

Hope your starting to feel better

The only thing they said the day they dod the colonoscopy was that my colon looked normal. They took some tissue biopsies, I go back in April. In the meantime I am still having 7-10 bm's a day, a lot of gas and cramping too. Hope to get an answer soon!
