Hi all,
I am quite new to this.
I am really concerned about my symptoms, please can you lovely people give me some advice.
My symptoms are severe burning sensation on both of my lower legs. It is almost constant.. I sometimes seem to get a cold feeling, sort of shiver running down my body. The symptoms have been going on now for about 5 months. My skin sometimes seems sore to the touch. Also there is no visible symtoms and my skin feels normal temperature to the touch. I ahve been to the dr's and he has transfered me to see a neurologist. Can someone please tell me that these symptoms are not the symptoms of life threating disease... All in all i feel well but constantly worrying.
PLease can you take the time to give me some advice, it would be very much appreciated.
Forgot to add that i have not had any kind of surgery which could have resulted in nerve damage..
Thanks to all you kind people

Goody,
Sounds like what I have. RSD / CRPS. I 've had it for over 2 years now. Constant burning pain. It is a neurological disease that is normally not life threatening. Mine started from a life threatening accident.

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (older term)
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (updated term)
Burning pain that is disappropriate to the condition. In other words, the pain doesn't make any sense but you know it's there because your brain keeps sending messages. The pain is real and non stop. Go to the Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy message board.

ALso, please ask your doc for a 'nerve conduction test'...this is a symptom i have had for quite some time and finally, an answer! Through this test, they found that i have 'neuropathy'....i don't know alot about it yet as it was only very recently, but i would reccomend that you at least ask your doc for the test to see if they can find anything. What it feels like to me, is like i've been scalded/sunburned and it is very sore to the touch. when it hurts, i can't wear socks or have anything touch it if at all possible. I am glad that i finally have an answer and i pray that you will find one too! Lil'Pea

Lil Pea,
I have the exact same problem and I absolutely cannot wear socks. They drive me up the wall. People do not understand this.

I am reading your comments with interest. I am 67 & for 3 years have experienced burning sensations in my feet {along with numb toes} and lower legs.
The first doctor gave Vitamin B12 shots, no change. Then referral to Neurologist.. no apparent Neurological reason.. but prescribed Neurontin for Peripheral Neuropathy, as well as anti anxiety drugs. No change except for bad reaction to SSRi's [anti anxiety]
Second doctor, [for 2nd. opinion] is going through the same routine... still no alleviation of burning.
This is not life threatening, but significantly depressing & affects the quality of life
My next course of action is to try a Naturopath.

Goody, my aunt suffers from the same thing, she was diagnosed with neuropahty, probably resulting from diabetes. She is in constant pain and does not leave her home, that's how bad the pain is. I'm hoping that your pain doesn't get that bad, i'll keep you in my prayers. She takes neurotin and cymbalta, both of which haven't really helped much.
Take care.
