Hi! I'm a 28 year old female with a problem that's been going on for about 8 years now... I have a very itchy anus and am not sure what's causing it. I always seem to wake up and find myself itching that area, so much sometimes that it hurts the next day. This happens on a nightly basis. It does itch during the day but not nearly as bad as when I'm sleeping. I've tried to cut my nails and use hydrocortizone to help with the itching but nothing seems to help. I went to the doctors about 2 years ago and they didn't find anything wrong and suggested hydrocortizone. I'm wondering if it could be an alergy to toilet paper, a parisite, hemmeroid or anal fissure (which I'm not really sure what that is). Has anyone has this problem? It's driving me crazy! Thank you.

I had this problem about a year ago. Out of the blue. Mostly in the AM when I would first wake up. I sometimes thought it was the itching that woke me. I did a parasite cleanse and the problem went away.

I get this when I drink too much caffeine or eat too much chocolate.

Hemorrhoids can also cause intense itching.

How do I do a parasite cleanse? Is this something done by a doctor or can I get it from a store? Thank you!

There are several ways you can cleanse. You can get cleanse kits at the health food store. I have never used them but have friends that say they are ok. I do the Hulda Clark cleanse. Just look up on the web ... and GL :)

If it's pinworms, you can go to the pharmacy and get over the counter Pin-X which tastes disgusting but works. Use it again two weeks later. If you continue to have itching problems, it's not pinworms. When we've had pinworms, the Pin-X would kill them off immediately, whereas a parasite cleanse (which is still possibly a good thing) would take longer.

And hemmoroids can itch terribly.

Thanks so much for all your help! Is it possible that someone could have a parasite for the past 8 years? It totally creeps me out! I made an appointment with my dr. again for Thursday so I hope she can help me. Also, can you see hemmeroids? From what I can tell, there's nothing there, no bumps or anything. Thanks again!

It can be about anything, but hydrocortizone can make it worse by drying out the sensitive skin. Make sure your bottom is always dry, if it is hot out, just change underware more often. Sleep without anything on your bottom at night AND - most importantly - DO NOT SCRATCH.
Itchy anus is quite common and even though scratching seems unevitable try and sit on your hands! When it is extremely itchy you could apply some ice, it will help. BUT DO NOT SCRATCH!
I tried hydrocortizone, vaseline, curel, about anything else for dry skin, and all made it worse. I notice it bothers me far more in summer than in winter simply because you sweat more in summer.

I try so hard not to scratch but I just can't seem to help it while I'm asleep. I saw my doctor today and asked her about it. She gave me a prescription of Zyrtek which should help with the itchiness. She doesn't think it's a parasite since it's been so long. I also have a few patches of dry skin/psoriasis so many that's what's going on down there. Who knows, I'm just hoping this prescription helps! Thanks again for your suggestions.

Hello,
I've had the same problem for years and went to the doctor a month ago. I took a pinworm test and it was negative but I don't understand how the itching can be so constant and I itch it without realizing it at night. Sometimes I notice a white residue but I can't tell if it's just from the toilet paper or what. Have you noticed this yourself? Would this be a parasite?
Thanks.

pinworms are an intestinal parasite that can cause anal itching. They are active in the middle of the night and the female lays eggs in the mucus lining of the part of the colon right inside the anus. they are not dangerous, only annoying, and with women they can spread to the vagina if you are not careful. they are also very hard to see as they duck back inside the stool. Hope this helps

I was looking for infromation for my friend who has coeliac disease (gluten allergy) and came across something called Candida, a yeast growth in your gut. Have a guess what one of the symptoms is, yes, an itchy anus!
Check out the web for more information, looks like you can get a yeast killing drug to be taken with a yeast free diet - no bread, no vinegar and OMG no alchohol, what am I going to do!!!!

daisy and flowerone, i've had the same symptoms as both of you, pretty much for the past 12 years!

i've tried dosing with vermox to no ill effect. my GP suspects i could have dermatitis but i'm yet to confirm this.

i still have a sneaking suspicion it is pinworms as i only really itch at night.

have you discovered what it was that causes your itching?

do you get itchy in the vulval area too?
