Is the main cause of tmj grinding ones teeth? I know a bad bite can be a cause but do the majority of people with TMJ grind their teeth at night. TIA

Sponsor tealadyjudy111 03-16-2005, 03:45 PM Hi I think my tmj is because im stressed all the time and move my jaw back and forth without thinking Im 53 and waiting to have a double jaw replacement and im terrified. How bad is yours? Im from the uk where are you from judy.
mcruk 03-17-2005, 05:04 AM Mine certainly is from grinding at night which ive done since I was a young child apparantly. Im 31 now but I also notice I clench my teeth and also move my jaw around a lot.
Miss L 03-17-2005, 06:15 AM mine is from clenching when im sleeping and stressed and missing all my bottom teeth bar on on the left the one i have left has actually fallen over now because theres nothing holding it up!!
so mine is caused by over use of the muscles on the right because i eat everything on the right side, my cheak muscle is very well developed on this side so is my neck muscles you can see the diffrence just looking close up  sunflower22 03-18-2005, 02:38 PM Mine from grinding, clenching, stressed, open bite, dislocated disk.
grapes 03-19-2005, 12:32 AM In my case, bruxism is absolutely the prime culprit. What triggered the bruxism? Orthodontics when I was 13.
