Angiogram scheduled for Monday 21st after 5 1/2 month wait (UK!). Can anyone guess the result in advance? Give me a diagnosis!
My stress ecg results were:- significant 2.5mm downsloping lateral ST depression at peak exercise, changes apparent before 6 minutes, told to stop at 6 mins 43 secs as heart rate was up to 85% of max although no chest pain. ST depression lasted for 9 minutes into recovery phase.
I had the test because I started with pressing-type chest pain, that stopped me in my tracks and then faded away within 5-10 minutes, on the treadmill last August. Then when walking - and then when on my home bike. After 2 weeks of this happening about 6 times (I had to challenge my body a few times to be sure in my own mind what was happening) I checked in eventually at the gp and found after tests that my cholesterol was 526 (?hereditary apparently), TG 715, but HDL 104, and I had the above ecg results. Their diagnosis was angina due to CHD.
I am slim, have been on heart healthy diet from own choice for nearly 3 years - loads of fruit/veg/pulses, wholewheat bread or rice, no sugar, no salt, minimal sat. fats, no spreads on my bread, only use virgin olive oil in small amounts, small amounts nuts/seeds, virtually no processed foods/baked goods and of course a glass or two of red wine a day! I have added oily fish to this since the summer. And stopped nice hard cheese. By the way, the "diet" is great - loads of herbs, garlic, chilli etc. yum-yum. I used to work out in the gym/swim/ walk but have had to do less now that the angina has started. I still do a lesser amount of swim/walk just to get the "buzz". Have been warned to go gently but the good thing with angina is that when you stop and it fades away you can carry on where you left off although maybe a tad slower! :bouncing:
Oh, I'm a 54 year old female by the way. Retired so no stress from job but only stress is a chronic pain condition. Shouldn't have expected to be at too much risk. But my mum had a heart attack at 62 - then, bless her, lived to 87 with no pills or further problems. I still get the angina even though I try to be careful, especially if I have just eaten or I go out in the cold. Also more minor tightness or short of breath if I get agitated or when doing housework etc. despite the medication.
So, my long-awaited angiogram is on Monday 21st. Anyone willing to have a go at guessing the result? Any diagnosis in the offing? I'm half in denial/optimistic and half expecting the worst. I'm not a worrier and will deal OK with what comes though. I'm not a gambler but this intrigues me. What is the likely result? Whoever gets closest will get a cyber kiss..............or a cyber hug if it's a lady, if you don't mind. :D
Maybe making this into a fun type guessing game takes any pressure off in a way, who knows? Anyway, have a guess. I'll let you know next week.
If anyone wants to know what an angiogram is like I'll tell you next week.
