Hi everyone  ,
A few months ago,I ate shrimp at my mom's and proceeded to get itchy,a little bit swollen lips. This lasted about a half hour to an hour, and was not that severe.Last week,I ate one bite of shrimp and also got very itchy, swollen, red lips.Since then, they got blistered looking and very painful(like a severe sunburn). Now they are extremely red and painful. This has been lasting for like a week now.I have no other symptoms.Sounds like I'm allergic to shellfish, right?I have eaten crab and shrimp in between these incidents and been fine!If anyone knows what I can do to relieve this lip pain, please let me know! Thanks,Sarah

I have experienced a slightly swollen tongue when eating scallops. But I can eat Lobster, Crab, Shrimp, clams just fine. I also cannot eat raw hazelnuts (relative of the Birch family) and I am allergic to Birch.

So, if I were you I'd avoid shrimp.

Hi Sarah, please go get a food allergy test done as it's important. Especially you are already experiencing some swelling, you may never know if they might develop into a more serious allergic reaction(anaphylaxis). So get a test done and see how allergic you are to shrimp and what other food(esp seafood) you might be allergic to. Anyone can develop an allergy at any point of time in their life, doesn't have to be when they are young. Antihistamines can stop further allergic reactions and thus reducing or stop the lip swelling. Your doctor will prescribe some medications for you to make you better. Good luck! :)

Benadryl may help relieve your symptoms.

Good luck

I get a burny tongue when eating scallops also - never really thought that it could be an allergic reaction. Bummer, I like scallops.
