Today I got my tongue pierced at random and now I'm really scared because I've been reading it can kill you. Do you think the chances of me dying from a tongue piercing are really high?

Chances aren't high.
Just make sure to properly clean the piercing.

Hello,
I'm sure you will be fine hun. Like the other poster said, just make sure you clean it like you are supposed too. I know they usually tell you to gargle with listerine, but I find this only irritates it more. If you have some antiseptic(the one that comes in the brown bottle), use a q-tip and dip it in and apply it around the piercing making sure you get all around it real good. Your tongue will probably be swollen for a few days and it will probably be hard to talk. This is normal. You may also see some white thick stuff come out too. That is also normal, just keep cleaning it like your supposed too.
If it gets red or irritated and starts hurting real bad, then call your doctor and let him/her know.

My daughter has had three tongue piercings for about 5 years. She followed the Listerine routine very carefully and still tries to keep her mouth clean. She had a little infection with one of them at one point but her doctor helped her clear it up. Don't ever hesitate to go to a Dr. if it's red or sore (after healing time). They've seen everything, believe me! And don't forget-you have to take it out when you go to the dentist! Peace, Gina

I've had my tongue and nose pierced and neither posed a problem for me. In fact, I found it 1,000 times easier to take care of my tongue then my nose. The nose piercing hurts bad and it is constantly trying to close up. No problems with the tongue though. I've had mine done for 3 years now. Be sure to wash with any alcohol-containing mouthwash. It's recommended that you use the flavorless, yellow-tinted Listerine for at least one month after having it pierced. It is possible to get an infection and I know people who have. They had to take theirs out because of it. Just take care of yours. Washing with mouthwash actually makes it feel better. You'll notice it hurts more in the morning when you wake up so be sure to rinse first thing.

Well mine's been quite useful in the bedroom department! :D
:p Well worth it I think! :p
(Although, I had mine done yonks ago, when it wasn't heard of, and actually didn't know you could be paralysed etc etc..)

I have had my tongue pierced kept it for 3 years and never had a problem. The main thign is to keep it clean, especially when you first get it done. Also if you notice you are getting an infection take it out right away and and deal with it.. All those horror stories about people havign this and that with body peircign mainly came from people who did not take care of themselves or the peircing

When my son was in the high school band, we went to Vail, CO for a band contest and a little skiing, snowboarding, etc. One of our baritone players had his tongue pierced right before we left on the trip. (I went as a chaperone) Well, the tongue got infected and swelled up like nobody's business, but we made him take the stud out of his tongue and wash his mouth out after every meal and before bed with Listerine. He lived through it and is absolutely fine to this day. I just loved that kid--he was tough. Anyway, if our band boy made it with his huge, swollen, infected tongue, you will too. If you get concerned at any point, let your doctor or dentist check you out. I'm sure you'll be just fine.
