Hi There,

I am a Hodgkin’s (stage IV) survivor! I had the disease when I was 14, now I am 27. I am thinking about having a baby. Does anyone know the risks or rates of me getting sick again? Could anything bad happen to baby or me?

Please, I will appreciate replies.

Be strong!!!

I have researched everything available and the answer is the same. We are all individuals with diffrent treatment types and time tables. Therefore it is recommended that you see a specialized MD that can review your case before you attempt pregnancy. The greatest concerns are radiation, chemo and their effects on DNA during treatment and their effects now on a developing fetus. Good luck and lets us know what you find out. God Bless

Michelle,

Hi there!! I am also a Hodkgin's Disease Survivor!! Mine was stage II-B, so was easier controlled. I was also diagnosed when I was 14 and now am 27 myself. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif) I had chemo for 6 months and radiation for 1 month as part of my treatment, and I have been in remission since 1990.

I have been married now for 2 years and am wanting to get pregnant myself. We have been trying off and on for 2 years with no luck. I rarely have a period and am going to see my GYN this fall to see if there is something that we can do about this.

If you learn anything about pregnancy after cancer treatments, please, please let me know. I wish you well and continued good health.

Fellow cancer survivor,

Jamie

Hi Jamie,

It's so good to know that you are a survivor just like me!!!!

I have a son already!!! He is 9 and very healthy. I went thru a lot...Since when I got pregnant was by surprise (I was 17) and in remission for less than a year, doctors were scared and in doubt about what could had happen, but thank GOD my son was and is the most perfect baby!!! Now I want have the second child I want do some more research to be sure that everything will be okay again.

Well, if you are not getting pregnant, does not mean that is related to the treatment. This could be because you are anxious or something else. Even if it is, the most important thing is that you are very healthy now.

I want to know what the doctor said. In addition, if you want I would like to know you better. We have common life experiences.

You can mail me: mimorison at yahoo.com

Take care, keep me posted
Michelle
