my biopsy is today and i am so scared. i am not a big fan of needles or doctors so this is very difficult for me. i was just wondering though, is it possible for the surgeon to look at the node in suspicion and be able to see if it looks cancerous or not? i just wanted to have an idea of what to expect from the results since i wont find out for a week or so.

Are you getting a FNA biopsy or surgical?.
I don't think a surgeon can diagnose anything.
It has to go to pathology to be examined, that's the reason why it takes longer for the results.

Good luck! I'm sure all will be fine. Let me know how it goes. (Because I'm planning on getting one soon too)

Cancer is clearly evident in some nodes, so they may be able to tell you their suspicions fairly soon. I know it can be a long, agonizing wait, but please try to concentrate on something else during that time. You will drive yourself nuts if you don't. Good luck with everything, and let us know how it turns out!!!!!

When I went in to get my biopsy, the ENT felt the node in question and told me that he was sure that this was nothing to worry about and that a biopsy was not neccessary. that felt really good to hear and i am going to look into therapy to see why i get so freaked out over every little thing my body does. sometimes there really isnt anything wrong but your own mind. i have had this problem ever since my brother got cancer at age 20 so i think it is about time to see if i can cope

You should always get a second opinion just to be on the safe side. Not to scare you or anything, there are situations when the doctor says there's nothing to worry about, and after awhile they find out it was something serious. Then they realize that they should've paid more attention to it before.

Freaking out over what goes on with your body is pretty much normal for most people. A person's body is very complex, with a bunch of weird things happening that you have no clue about. Since it can be millions of possibilities of what's wrong, it is logical for you to worry. Indeed there are times when there's nothing wrong but your mind., but most of the time it pays off to be more concerned and curious.

thank you for your advice, going to the ent was my second opinion. i had gone to my family practioner first and he said exactly the same thing as the other doctor. they both said that the node was not concerning at all and i would like to believe that two trained individuals have at least an idea of what they are saying. i understand where you are coming from but i dont think it is neccessary to continue seeing doctors when they are all going to say the same thing. i will keep an eye on it and if anything changes ill go back in.
