Ok I've made a few posts but those were small problems that didn't bother me.

But this one is getting in the way now.

Basically when Im at school or playing games or on the internet trying to work or something, I just can't seem to focus on things. Its like... everything is sharp (not blury) but I am unable to directly focus on things... Best I can describe it. Other things are that my mind suddenly goes blank... Thinking of nothing and I don't absorb a word anyones saying. I hear them perfectly but Its just not getting through (again best I can describe).

Each of these happens about once a day... sometimes not even once a day,.. other times twice a day.

Anyone got info on whats wrong?

P.S Im 14 years old :) Starting my GCSE's soon aswell :)

I get like that too! Someone will be talking to me and all of a sudden I'm realizing I have no idea what they are talking about! I chalk it up to the person being boring.
maybe your internet games aren't challenging anymore, and your not interested in what the teachers are saying...
Sometimes it will happen while reading - I'll read the same paragraph over and over thinking, "OK now I'll pay attention!" and I don't! So it seems quite normal.

Hey Final Shot,

I get like that sometimes - and its usually preceeded by hours of tv watching or idle internet surfing!!!

I love tv and internet but they are the WORST things for the brain!

Try reading a book - for pleasure not for schoolwork - now and then and try doing stuff like crossword puzzles to exercise your brain. You will feel much better. Theres a book called 'A short history of nearly everything' by Bill Bryson that is a really fascinating read; scientific but scintilating and not difficult to read at all.

Also, maybe talk to an intelligent friend about a really engaging and abstract subjects such as time travel, the meaning of death, parallel universes etc!! haha That'll get your synapses jumping.

Make sure too that you're getting enough B vitamins. In fact, a few months b4 your GCSEs, start taking B vitamins and try and eat well.

Good luck with your exams.

Hi,

It seems to me that you have your exams coming up and there is probably an underlying stress factor. Also, it is right to get your vitamins and eat healthily over the next few months (or even years !!). Another thing, you are, of course , probably hormonal and this can affect the concentration.

Good luck

Reading is one of the many things needed for brain functions. Its has a similar effect as when you've been going to the gym for a while and then carry groceries or running up some stairs becomes more effortless. You'll be the same if you start using the brain too. Start doing it while you're young to keep you mentally alert.

My problems started around the same age. Still not better. Don't think it's normal. What happens to most people when they're bored happens when I'm genuinely interested in what the person is saying. I can't read anything from top to bottom. My reading comprehension is horrible. I have however developed methods to get around my weakness. I read small sections with intervals in between. I write short notes to myself, and at work if I need to ask the same question multiple times...I try asking different people so that no one will be the wiser. I have to put the notes where I can see them because if it goes in the planner, then I forget to look at the planner. It also has helped me to develop sort of a sixth sense to what is going on around me (Not ESP or Supernatural). Its sort of just a knack for what is happening and what people are trying to do or get accross without using words. I am lucky to have a wife that puts up with my "Scatter Brain" as well. Thought about looking for help, but even doctors dismiss this as "normal". Most of the people I know, don't seem to have the problem to the degree that I do. I am however determined to beat this...with or without a doctors help and accomplish great things with my life. Cheers!
