Hi everyone, well as if not enough happens,I have to post a question about good old C5-6.as I have mentioned, I had c6-7 fused last Aug,one of the pain parts prior to surgery , was my right thumb got involved with all that nasty pain, after the surgery that stopped, anyway this past two weeks I have been having my left hand go to sleep , to the point of pain, and these past couple days also the right hand as well,I am talking a deep bone ache that gets relief only I let my arms dangle ect.... can not sleep on my side at all without the tingleing and deep bone ache setting in,also some pain in shoulders all to reminding of the pain prior to surgery last Aug,whats differant or what have I done?? well actually I kicked up the activity 10 notches cuz I needed to get my water bed back up and running(its been torn apart since prior to last Aug) my oldest son did the major mechanical work, lifting ect.... but alot of cleaning needed to be done, bending, oh hell alot,I worked my lower back into a crippleing pain, and now the old hands and shoulder want to get in the act big time, guess I am asking about the hand sleeping, bone ache, is this c5-6? Diana

Hey solardust,
Did they put a titanium plate in when they did your surgery? I have not had the surgery yet but am well on my way. The reason I am asking is I have heard that your levels above and below can wear out if not supported and start the pain all over again. Is this true??? I hope you are ok. Having pain is bad enough but when it just lingers on and on you just want to rip your arms off. I am going through this as we speak.
Hope you get some relief!!!!!

HI Nikki,Yep they did use the plate and donar bone, that was for c6-7,at that time c 5-6 was also herniated but, the NS left it,said he thought it could be put off untill better solutions came about,I believe he meant the artificial disc that has just been approved. I am praying that I just over did it,and this will go away, your right about pain, it justs eats ya up.Diana

Hey
I am wondering if your pain is coming from the disc that was not fixed????
I am going to have acdf at C4-5and 6. However, I have mild disc buldge at C3 and if they leave it alone and it eventually worsens, will I have to go back and have surgery again to fix this  .

Sounds like you overdid things!! - how much weight did you push around with your waterbed? Could be the upper level acting up or you might have just increased your activity too rapidly - I was told it could take up to a year to be back to 'normal'. I would discuss things with your doc, even if it is the upper level causing symptoms there's a good chance that things might get better on their own if you take it easy. I also, coincidentally, have developed carpal tunnel sydrome which manifests itself at night, part of the numbness could be that. Good luck, let us know what your doctor thinks.

Thanks for posting,I was wondering about carpal tunnel, and yep possible c5-6 acting up, and yep I over did it,the thing is as I was cleaning the room and stuff,I knew I was over doing it, but these are the things I always done prior to all the neck and back drama, and this past year, since june, I have had to ask for favors left and right, the youngest has been so good about helping that I wont even ask her to help more, and the hubby(joke) he has been trained not to lift a finger,I am gonna make a list though ,and divide chores , so 1.we do not have to crawl through garbage , and 2,make things more fair, which takes retraining for me,not that I am super woman or something, but I am still living in the 50's and prior world.I hope by resting up all the hand and bone pain goes away, lol and by the time I do feel better the house should be trashed again.p.s I suppose not being able to take the meds I was prior to the bleeding ulcer, that factors in, prolly feeling some of the pain that the meds were blocking,I will let ya know about the Doc, I see him on the 30th.Diana

Hi Solar,
I moved a washer and dryer out of laundry room to put a new pair in over the weekend, and guess what? I'm not feeling so hot today.
I am hoping yours will settle down...you don't want to go through all of this again...so soon????
Take it easy for a few days...
Are you excersizing?

Diana and Dennis,
I thought I was the only idiot that overdid things!! Three weeks after my first procedure (two level anterior fusion with plates) I was told I could hike. I realised after a 3000ft climb on a steep rocky trail which meant keeping my head down to watch my feet that this was not what I should be doing. Felt great for the first three weeks until then, things somewhat deteriorated from there.
Now I know that I can't be cavalier and that if my body tells me 'too much' I must stop. My non union and need for a second procedure may not be related to overactivity but I'll always have the 'what if' at the back of my mind.

Solar,
I hear you. I really didn't mess anything up, just feel the work I did. It's been a while since i did real labor. My docs released me to do most everything at the 6 month visit. Still want me to watch the weight. I used a dolly to move the appliances, but you still have to wrestle them around a bit.
We do have to try and get back to normal things you know. I have a 3 season porch to build this summer. Got to get into shape...
The trip was great! I didn't catch a big marlin, although I had a big shark on for a while. He chewed through the line. We caught some small yellow fin tuna. Cooked one up at the condo and it was really good!
I enjoyed the break from winter, got a tan and didn't want to leave...as usual. After the previous eight months, it was really nice to get away and not have to think about "problems".
I made the flights really well. The last time I went (2003), I was in pretty bad shape, with my neck, and suffered with the traveling. This time, I was fine. I did my exercises the whole time I was there. Kind of nice looking at the ocean while you work out...
Hope you feel better!
Wimpette,
Oh my, I would never have done that at 3 weeks. Solar, weren't we layed up in front of the TV at 3 weeks? I don't think I could walk straight at 3 weeks ;)
Honestly, it was about 6 weeks before I was doing things halfway normal. I was in the collar for like 13 weeks if I remember right...or was it a year ;)
Be careful all...take r easy but git r done!

Hi Diana,I'm so sorry things are bothering you again.I would say that you def. over did but there's a good chance that it is your upper disk too.Call you dr. and let them know what is going on and get in there.I hope that it turns out to be a case of just over done. Please give them a call though so they know what is going on with you.
Now what were you thinking doing all that? ok no more lecture I would have done the same thing. It just doesn't help us one bit does it?
Other than this, how are things going all good on the home front?
I haven't been in the best of shape, for some reason the last few weeks have been quite awful,so I have'nt done much of anything.
On a happy note our brittany puppies were born on sunday,They are so cute and getting fatter everyday.Having a hard time trying to get the girls to leave them be,it's a good thing the mama doesn't seem to mind. She doesn't let anyone eles near her though. My brother in law walked in earlier today and the mom ran out of the kennal and nipped his hand.Good thing brother in law is understanding.
Let me know how things are.Hugs Heather

Hey there! Sorry to hear I am not alone in the take a step backwards,it is as if once the neck brace comes off all is well in the eye's of family ect....knock on wood alot of the nasty pain has let up, but the thumb is still numb off and on,and a strange new pain came on, while turning from back to side(sleeping) I get this quick god awfull pain that can only be discribed as if the muscle is being torn, its quick anyway so I guess I should be grateful for that  Congrats on the new puppy additions! They are so very cute when small, and it sounds like they have a very good Mama! :) I am paying my youngest daughter 20.00 to get the house in order, cuz once again Easter dinner is being held here,I feel like whipping jelly beans at everyone!!! :D Summer is just not coming fast enough.Hey Jay,Your right I do know the feeling, but I can only guess how nasty your neck and back felt after useing a snow blower, your so fresh from surgery yet!I honestly wonder if I will find a peaceful truce in regards to chores ect...I am not a cotten ball or something meaning I know I am able to do way more then a few months ago,but gee's there is a limit and always will be a limit, almost feel like I should put a sticker on my forehead reminding everyone,oh well.....before I forget again,I am trying to get my sister to post here, she is going to have a heck of alot of work done on her neck at the end of April, she has very bad stenosis, and needs fusions done also, she is going to Milwaukee to get her surgery done,I am really praying for her,her Hubby is fighting throat cancer and they have two young children to run after yet,I tell ya it truly is always something,my Sis had a good question yesterday, she wanted to know why our spines cry out only in pain, when ya know full well they could give you sensations that are nice too?I will be mulling that one over, well take care all, Diana
