I think that an MRI with contrast will reveal any other problems that might explain your symptoms and how to correct them. At that point the surgeon or your doctor can re evaluate you to see whether the initial impression that you had something that didn't need surgery was correct or that something else is going on. Hang in there, pain is hard to deal with and hopefully , this might give you a more precise answer as to what is going on and how to deal with it.

I had gadolinium contrast agent at the half-way point in a series of ca. 100 neck and head images acquired in a two hour study. The contrast was primarily to highlight brian lessions that would be caused by MS. The lessions break the blood-brain barier and alow the constrast agent to leak into the brain tissue casuing a bright spot in an image taken using a specific imaging sequence (I know more than a little about the physics of MR).
In my case there was no evidence of brain lessions. MS has symptomology very similar to some of the things involving cervical problems that get resolved surgically. Unfortunately the treatment of MS is not as mature as most disc problems.

I hope your MS improves.
My understanding of the contrast dye use is limited to my case, but here goes. As I understood it, the dye was needed if you've had prior neck surgeries.
I'm not sure what other uses it serves, but I'm sure it has many. Didn't your doctor tell you why it was needed?
