Ya that was my Austin Power's moment... Anyways my mother died of skin cancer and for the longest time I have had to have my moles checked out fr that reasoning. Weird question.. should a mole be painfull, or be able to be soem what scratched off?

I called my first mole MUMMY MOLEY so we can all have austin powers moments.

No moles are not usually even sore. They appear innocent until they CHANGE if perhaps a mole stays the same, chances are it is ok, but one minor change, or continued changes warrants immed checking into.

Due to your Mom dying from Melanoma puts you in higher risk. So much is NOT known about this disease it is scary.

Remember all your hard diligent work getting regular skin checkups, and learn to be vigilant (like I presume you already are) do not scratch any bump (even mosquito bites) tsk tsk. If a mole begins to bleed and there has been NO TRAUMA to it, (ie scratching, clothing rubs, just wacking it on a door way) then hustle off to the doctor.

My mole (which ended up being a Breslow thickeness of 4.00 mm and stage 2B malignant melanoma) did not bother me at all. It was huge, raised, and ugly, and only to shut up my family did I go and thank God I did.

Good Luck
