Hey Im new here. Just wanted to see what you guys think. Im a 35 yr old female . woke up last monday w severe neck pain and a numb thumb. Went to the chiro twice and got adjusted. Hurt like hell afterwards and had a massage once also. Pain was radiating down my shoulderblade and arm. Sleeping is a nightmare. Can't get comfortable arm kills me.
Not once did the chiro say anything about having a herniated disk. Just told me to come back for more adjustments.
I was in so much pain I couldn't stand it at some points. Sometimes the pain is tolerable and sometimes unbelieveable. Im guessing spasms.
I came on the net and did some research and sounds like Its a herniated disk in my neck.
I went to my GP today. He felt around and had me do this or that . He said He thought I had a pinched nerve and herniated disk. ( can they tell anything from feeling) He is sending me for an MRI and depending on the results will decide on treatment. He said Ns most likely. He gave me SOMA 350mg and Lortab 10. Both make me sick to my stomach.
Well just wanting to what others have to say that have been through simliar things.
thanks
kelly

Kelly,
Your GP is probably basis his diagnosis on the symptoms. You can't tell much from the outside.
An MRI is the only way to really know whats up. You need this regardless, because Chiro should look at this before additional manipulation.
I had problems with pinched nerves at C5-6 and C6-7 which gave similar symptoms. I had Chiro for a number of years after diagnosis, before finally having surgery last June.
I tried many different meds too. Make sure you eat something before taking meds. this may help the stomach. Otherwise call your doc and get something different.

Watch out for chiros. I had MAJOR neck surgery three months ago (6 level laminectomy) because I had rapidly progressing partial quadriplegia due to congenital cervical stenosis and disc degeneration. A week before my surgery one of my neighbors, a chiropractor, approached me and urged me to try chiropractic instead of surgery. The thing that disturbed me was that he did not ask to review my MRIs or other medical history before declaring that I should avoid surgery. I had a team of physicians telling me I would be toast in a couple of months w/o surgery, and I think they were right. Surgery fixed all of neuro issues, although surgery of this magniitude is not fun. Shortly before my surgery my PT, a Ph.D. with a neurosurgical rotation, said she could no longer treat me because they were concerned that any manipulation could injure my spinal chord. I can only imagine that a good neck-cracking from a chiro would have had a bad outcome.
Your symptoms sound like a sub-set of mine two or three months before surgery.
