View Full Version : liver enzymes?

I read that the liver is one of the most likely places for lymphoma to spread, once it does so. I had a CBC recently, after my symptoms began (light fever and swollen glands), and the only thing that came back "off" was a liver enzyme was low. I think it was called SGOT. I looked up the causes of liver enzymes being off, but all i can find is the causes for them being too high. Mine were low, not high. Does anyone know if the cancer had spread to the liver, would the numbers then be higher or lower than normal, in the bloodwork? I know that lymphoma, in general, doesn't show up in bloodwork. But I was curious about the liver issue.

There does not appear to be any association between low enzymes and disease. The low enzyme value can be evidence of malnutrition, but does not inherently signal a disease process. Other reasons for a low value would be laboratory error, typographical error, or translational as in reference ranges being presented in different measurements than standards given.
