Hey guys. I just recently turned 21 and my head has more bald spots than my 50 year old father. It is thinning so badly, it's just ridiculous. It seems like it has been falling out the last few years maybe.. but it is finally starting to show and you can see the top of my scalp, it's so embarrassing. I knew the day was going to come at an early age once it started to fall out, and now it's here and it sucks. I give it a few more months and I'll probably be able to get some spit shines on the top of my head. I grow hair rapidly on my face as well as the hair on my head on the sides and the back, so I don't get why at this young age the male pattern baldness has all ready struck me? Does anyone have a similar problem or had a similar problem at such a young age? What steps can be taken to treat this, if any? I heard of products such as Avucore, etc., but it's costly and I am very skeptical that it'd work. Thanks.

Naws--
my boyfriend has a very similar problem to yours. he is 19 and is losing hair very rapidly, we have been trying to come up with different things to try--our first resort has been thickening shampoos--we're still waiting on results from that--nothing noticeable yet--sorry I can't give you any advice though!

Yeah, thickening shampoos have been useless for me.

Thickening shampoos will do nothing to battle hairloss. They're a nice aid but do nothing on their own. You need to search and do research on the proven treatments (Minoxidil, Finasteride) or look towards natural alternatives (Revivogen, Spiro, etc.).

try saw palmetto. I talked to a hair restoration doctor and he said that they call it "nature's propecia" it won't regrow hair, but halts hair loss. If you want and can afford it, you can get medical hair restoration. That works, but is pretty expensive.

Hey Naws,
I'm a 22 year old male...I have had very fine hair all my life...Now its getting to the point where it has receded some and hair is becoming very thin! Just like you, I knew I would probably have a problem with this at such an early age...It's so frustrating and is embarrassing...it hasnt gotten that bad yet, but I can tell in the next few years it will! I understand how you feel...most likely, you probably think the same way I do...That being bald, no one will see you as attractive! I think about that all the time, besides from being joked about or what not...I feel as if my hair stays, the ladies will keep rolling in....and if my hair goes, so will the ladies, along with the hair! I get jealous looking at others, with a full set of hair....especially really old guys, who hasnt lossed one hair! Its tough man, it feels like your missing out on your manhood...I havent done anything yet, but I think I might schedule an appointment with my dermotologist.
Does anyone know a lot about hair transplants??? I always hear good and bad about them...so to me it seems pretty risky, to spend all that money for nothing...plus it leaves a long thin scar in the back of your head...and just to say the transplant doesnt work, then your left with a big scar on the back of your head...and you cant cut your hair really short, b/c thats what I'd do if i go really really bald, without anyone noticing the scar!

Wow, really mature. Actually, I'm a 27 year old legal secretary who lives in Canada! So just because I am trying to help someone by telling my own personal story makes me an employee of the company! I don't even know where the company headquarters is. If you read my post clearly, I told people to avoid buying the product online and to go and purchase it at a health food store. Wouldn't someone who works for the company tell people to buy from the company directly! So whoever has mentioned a product on these post is working for that particular product and trying to make a dime off of it, like those who have mentioned rogaine etc? Maybe these posts are not for you since you have trouble trusting products that people reccommend to others. :nono:
Anyway, to those who are losing there hair, its up to you if you want to try Biofen. I just wanted to share my personal story and didn't think that I would get flack from a not so nice member. Bottom line is that it worked for me! I am just recommending a product as are 90% of the people who post messages on this board.

Talk to your father and find out how his hairloss progressed. It is not uncommon for hairloss to start at a young age, trust me. There are a lot of treatments to help hairloss with the most notable and proven being Rogaine and Propecia. Both of those, however, come with potential side effects among other baggage.

Another thing I would like to add is that my scalp is usually kinda itchy and it is very flaky. I'm not sure if it is just dryness or dandruff, but i can take my finger nails and gently scratch the top of my head and i get little white flakes all over. Is this related to my hair loss? If I go bald, will I still have this problem? This sucks! :o

I've heard that StressTabs with zinc can help temporary hair loss. My mom swears by it.

Dandruff and baldness are often linked, not as a cause just as a side effect to an extent. Most balding men have to deal with dandruff on some level. Try some Nizoral shampoo.

I, too, tried biotin after reading and researching its "hair and nail thickening" properties. Im a 25 year old male who is developing a "bald spot". The hair is still there, but super thin.
Took the biotin for about 2-3 months. The only thing it did for me was make my stomach sick sometimes. Other than that, my hair is still falling out.
Rogaine worked for me though but I dont like putting chemicals on my head. I dont know, I figure if somebody doesnt like me for my hair, then I prolly didnt want to know them anyways ;)

i'm 19 and my hair is getting pretty thin. and it really does suck. especially since it used to be really thick, and it's worse because i have longer hair so it's starting to look just dirty. everytime i wash my hair it makes it worse, so i try to avoid shampoo as much as possible. and that's not a good thing...
i'm not sure why it's happening though. i've heard stress can cause hairloss, but i don't think school is giving me this much stress...
also, i've heard it can be something to do with your scalp. like a bacteria or something...
one of these days i think i'm just gonna cut all my hair off, and just be done with it all...
if you haven't already, i would suggest seeing a doctor. it might be something that can be treated. though i haven't actually done that myself cause i'm too embarassed...

If you grow hair really well in the back and sides of your head, you seem like a good candidate for hair transplants. I heard they work really well. I just got mine done at $2 per graft which is not that expensive.
In the long run, if you do hair transplants, you may save money that you will be spending on other products in the long term.
So start saving and look into this, many people have benefited from the surgery.

i'm 32 and i feel better now that my hair is starting to grow back. i have been using a product called {removed} . i didn't want to put drugs on my head. i feel better using a natural product that is working for me. this is my opinion. hope it works for you.

I have heard that a man's hair loss pattern in inherited from his mother's side.
My husband is 55 with a full head of hair, his father was bald by 18 or something like that. His mom has a lot of hair.

Guys,
I spend many hours infront of this pc a day. Doesn't do the body much good just sitting around all day. I'm 36 and my hair started falling out on my desk in say 5 hairs a shot if i scratched my head. Mostly in the temple regions.
I went to a doctor and he tested me for allergies and I was allergic to dust and tatami mat dust (living in Japan).
Anyway, I couldn't really stop the dust in my room as I often vacuumed anyway.
However, I realized that 12 plus hours a day on a pc is not good for the body.
I always ran a little in the evenings a few times a week but decided to wake my body up more and do weight training. (at home) Just half an hour to an hour 3 times a week.
The hair stopped falling out and even started growing back.
Before you think about buying stuff, get back to basics and try to keep the body young. Stay away from coffee stimulants etc and exercise. The weight training was basically to make my body do the opposite of what it does in my regular routine which is sit at a computer moving my wrists.
Being 36 makes me conscious of the fact im getting further away from being young. So try to keep the body young as much as possible. I think of any workout as an investment for the next couple of days.
So consider your lifestyle and take it from there. Are you using the body enough?
Good luck.

I agree with the last post 110%. Take an organic multi-vitamin/minerals. Your body may be lacking nutrients because of poor diet or lack of exercise. Get Back to the BASICS. You are what you eat!
My husband is 36 and has a residing hair line, but he shaves his hair off and looks good to me! I don't care what anyone else thinks. I love that man because he's great, and I don't care about his hair loss. If you are worried about not attracting women or "babes" due to hair loss, it's BANANAS!

I am 21 and well my hairloss isn't really terrible yet, but it's really bothering me. I was always about really long hair for a long time, and then when I turned 19 my hair started receding. I am now 21 and the back of my head seems as thick as it ever was, but my frontal line is going back fast. Good (well in a way) to hear I'm not the only one this young with this problem. It bothers me more than anything else in my life, and that's saying something.
Another good thing to do though, and you probably hear this all the time, is to drink lots and lots of water. Atleast 2 liters a day. Drinking water (preferrably bottled/spring water) keeps your body young.
Unfortunately I can't take supplements because I have serious anxiety issues and panic disorder. The last time I tried to take a regular centrum I had a huge panic attack so that sucks for me.
But eating as nutritionally as possible, drinking lots of water and working out some will not necessarily directly affect your hair loss but it will make your body and mind younger and that can help your hair loss.
I just recently started jogging 3 nights a week for about an hour or so a few miles, and I've been doing resistance type weight training for about a year now. Haven't seen much improvement in my hair loss yet, but especially when I walk I sleep much better and I seem to be much more alert and have more energy the next day.
For me I can't just shave my head because I have a couple freckles and some of those red spots that are benign ( I forget the name) and that would probably look worse so I guess if I can't curb this thing without supplements or chemicals I'll hopefully be able to get a transplant or something.
Good luck to everybody.

regarding a couple of posts here; hairloss due to male pattern baldness will have nothing to do with your overall health. It is inherited through either your mother or father. I got the gene for premature balding from my father. He was nearly bald by time he was 24. I started to notice my hairline receading in Highschool! I got on propecia at 19 and halted the hairloss. I now use combo of generic rogaine and propecia and it is quite cheap. The rogaine has brought back some of the hairline and my hair is now and fairly good shape. I feel for you young guys losing as I know how it feels. Even though some women say that it does not matter, these are typically older women who look for other things like money. Well of course that is not true for all but hey we live in a superfical and materilistc society...so hairloss is devastating for a young man. Well good luck with you all.
