Hi,
Mt Daughter Is 3.at 6 Months Old She Was Taken Into Hospital With Bronchiolitus And Was In A Oxygen Tank For A Week.about 1 Month After She Was Diagnosed With Asthma, she Is Under A Doctor At The Hospital Who Untill Recently Thought Her Asthma Was Under Control,we Went To See Him Last Week And He Listened To Her Chest And Said He Wanted Her To Have A Chest Xray, which He Said Seemed Cloudy.he Asked Us How She Had Been So I Told Him Everynight She Is Awake Coughing And We Cannot Control It,its Not Always Wheezy Though.i Also Told Him I Was Worried About Her Height And Weight,he Said He Would Check Her And Compare With Her Notes, results Not Good She Hasn't Gained Any Weight And Has Only Grown 0.3 Of A Centimeter In10 Months.it Was Then That He Told Us He Was Going To Test Her For Cystic Fybrosis, saying It Would Involve A Sweat Test.so Could Anybody Give Me Any Information On What This Involves And Also There Experiences Please.
Thanks

A sweat test is a very painless procedure. They apply little sweatbands on an arm and/or leg to obtain a sweat sample -- to determine if the person has CF. DS was born with an intestinal blockage and doctors pretty much determined immediately he had CF -- He passed his sweattest with flying colors, but on newborns it's very difficult to obtain a sample. So they had to do a blood test for genetic testing. Your child is quite a bit older so they should be able to get a sample.

In any event I would ask about a referral to a pediatric specialist -- pulmonologist to determine what's wrong with your child. A friend of mine's grandson had RSV at a very young age and this time of year gets a little wheezy.

Another thing is NOT to panic and start researching CF at the library or online. There's a lot of OUTDATED material.
