I recently had a "deep cleaning" performed on all my quadrants. The dentist told me it was absolutely necessary when I went to him about problems with my breath. the deep cleaning was performed on local anaesthetics. The problem is that it seems to have not really helped my breath and i'm having concerns on if he really did a deep cleaning or if it was just a normal cleaning. Is there a way to check? Thanks!

I would believe him if he said he did it. But bad breath comes from all sorts of places - under your gums, medications, certain diseases, the back of your tonge, even your tonsils. You may very well have needed a good deep cleaning but at the same time that may have not been the main cause of your bad breath. The best you can do is work your way down the possible causes.

I would agree with Kikki. And also, if they gave you anesthetic, that is usually only used for deep cleaning/root planning. Normal cleanings do not require anesthetic because they don't have to go very far under the gumline:)
