View Full Version : Feel Like I'm Dreaming?

I've been having allergies now for four months, and I always feel tired and spaced out and like I'm dreaming. My vision is dim and my eyes are itchy and sticky, sometimes I see eye floaters too. Has anyone experienced this? It's not from medication, it was my first symptom, when i went to the doc he told me I had rhinitis. Nothing makes the foggy spacy head go away, and I've learned to live with it. Its taking a real toll on my life, i missed a court date! Also, I've been staying with my friend who has kitties, even though I'm allergic to them, even when i leave his house the dim vision and spacy head continue. Can anyone relate?? My ears feel full, and my nose runs alot. I also have anxiety and stress.

HELP PLEASE!

Yes what you describe is very common for allergies, especially allergies that are not being treated properly. Have you been prescribed any medicines? That would be your first step, as well as getting away from the cats ASAP.

I've been in the dream like state for about four months now too. It is awful feeling so spacey all the time and it is difficult to enjoy anything. My eyes are also really sticky and gooey, but they can usually be helped by antihistamines and eye drops. The fog on the other hand, it never goes away. I am looking into inner ear disorders right now. The disconnected, head in a fishbowl type feeling is often described by people with inner ear problems.

Do you get the dim/dream vision too?

My vision doesn't go dim, so much as cloudy. I can still read letters, in fact I was at the opthomologist about two weeks ago and my vision is 20/25- nearly perfect, so my eyes aren't out of focus. It is almost like looking through a layer of gauze. And when I go from reading or looking at something right in front of me, to looking at something in the distance, it takes three or four seconds for my eyes to come into focus.

You should see a doctor. I have year round allergies and take medications that do not cause that spacey, stressed out feeling. It also sounds like you may have allergies to the kitty. Allergies can lye dormant for up to 7 years so even if you thought were not allergic to something before, you may have been all along. And, you may also have a sinus infection to which you will need to get an antibiotic for.

The problem with dimming vision and floaters may be something else all together. It could even be serious. It would be a good idea to get to a doctor and possibly and eye doctor too. Do you know if vision problems run in your family? Even if not, it could still be serious. You only have one set of eyes to last your whole life.

I hope this helps and get well soon! :)

does the feeling ever go away. Been like this for over 2.5 years now.
And was your vision affected?

I also have pain in the right side of my nose and when I press on the swollen eyelid I feel that something wants to come down my nose. Similar to what you get if you squeezed a long ballon.

I went to an optomotrist and he said my eyes were fine, I'm just a little near sighted. My ears always feel clogged too, and i have runny nose and cough. The allergies/vision stuff started at the same time, all at one, I just kinda went into this blurry haze. I saw three docs, none could tell me what was up accept alergic rhinitis...and yes, I am very allergic to kittens, I am aware of it...thats why im on the allergy board :) I need to get away from the kitties...i know it...but this is such a strange symptom i just had to see if anyone else got it...its hard for my eyes to adjust to new light (dark-light light-dark). It's like wondering around in a dream all day and night, I feel like Im just existing, not really alive...eh, so depressing...

I am concerned for you about your eyes going from light to dim and back again. When my allergies act up sometimes my vision is a little hazy or blurry, but not what you described. I see an eye specialist because of a problem that I have with them not related to my allergies. Did you tell your eye doctor about those symptoms? My ophthalmologist told me to call him right away my eyes started dimming like that b/c it could be a serious problem. Does it seem like someone is pulling a shade to dim a room and raising to brighten it? If it does, I would call him just to be on the safe side. Maybe it is nothing and if so, then I am sorry for alarming you.

Thank you for the help Sunny, I really havent had anyone to talk to about all this stuff...everyone thinks im crazy...well, it started about four months ago, I was at work...and out of no where my vision went into this strange dimmess, and since then its been exactly the same, no better no worse. My nearsighedness became even worse too. When I'm outside my eyes are better, like eyes should act outside, but indoors my vision is really dim and slow to adjust and when it "adjusts" its not exactly right...kinda distorted ..distorted isnt the right word, but its the first that comes to mind.
Now i feel a cross between anxiety/depression/fear that leaves me in a bland state of mind...I also have blurry/foggy vision, at night especially. One night, I asked my friend if it was "foggy out or if its just me" and he said "its just you". I've been staying with him all this time, he has cats, a big allergy trigger for me. Cats gave my sister asthma...needless to say I'm moving out soon. I dont have any health coverage...so i dont know what im going to do. The only thing im scared of is not being able to afford a doc and going blind! I can handle everything else.

Well, I don't want to freak you out. I have had dream like states from anxiety in the past too, but just not the vision problem you described during an anxious state of mind. My vision difficulty was something else all together. Maybe yours is related to the anxiety and allergies. If you can get it checked, please do so.

If you don't have health insurance, call around and see if there are lower costing clinics you can go to or ask if the doctors office has a price for someone with no insurance, or if they will work out a payment plan. You should probably describe your symptoms to them first.

It is good you are moving b/c I am sure that the cats are not helping you at all. Maybe that is part of your vision problem since you are around them daily. Well, it doesn't cost anything to call around and see if there is a less expensive way to see a doctor or if they will work out something for you.

For your anxiety I recommend that you do a search on Lucinda Bassett who has written great, easy to read books about conquering stress and anxiety. Her books really helped me. I am not medicated for anxiety and my doctor even feels that I have it under control. I think you would find her books helpful.

I hope this helps
Sunny :)

I dont think my vision is as severe as you suggested, it doesnt hurt my driving, I'm still making straight A's (modestly grins ;-), I can still read, they dont hurt, they are not physically light sensitive, and the optomitrist said he checked all things and nothing came up accept eye pressure (which went away with allegra/sitrex), i'm just a little nearsighted....yes, there have been many tramatic things happen to me lately...my best guy friend died of brain cancer at 19, i moved from illinois to california to illinois again within 8 months, i started college, i started seeing my ex who doesnt love me and uses me because im broke, my mom and i started talking again after a few years of distance, i've moved five times in the past three years, and working on my sixth, i moved away from my ex best girlfriend and roomate who out of the blue started hummilating me and calling me a lesbian and doesnt pay bills, I've been to court over stupid insurance and sr22 tickets, all this within 3 years...i'm only 19, i feel old, older then everyone around me, i cant find a man, all my friends are over 30 or marrried...yada yada yada...I drink alot, probably too much...wow, now that i get all that out, i can see why anxiety could make a person crazy...and plunge them into a dreamlike state...maybe this is anxiety...tell me more about the symptoms...i dont eat much anymore, i cry alot, i crave beer, i avoid social sitations, i look forward to sleep, i find reasons to hate/distrust people, i feel unimportant and insignificant, i feel unattractive and like people are walking all over me, i feel judged.......
sry guys...im sure yall think im insane...whats wrong with your eyes Sunny?

I dont think dim was the right word to describe my vision, Its more like how after you've been reading or driving for a long time, or when you have sleep deprovation, how you're eyes feel tired, but you're vision is sleepy, i guess sleepy sleep deprovation vision is how i'd describe it, I can still make out colors. I looked up examples of what dim vision looks like online, and thats not how i percieve things. Spacial is probably the best word to describe how im feeling, like im in a bubble, and its very lonely in this bubble...so that might be why im so good at school...its the only thing i can do alone that amounts to possible success.

Ok, last post for today. lol.

No you don't sound insane Sally, you sound like you really have a lot going on, too much maybe. Well, there is nothing you can do to change the past and everything beyond this moment is exactly that, the past. My advice would be to do what you are happiest with, move, go to school and become the best you can be.

Another thing about anxiety is that usually people with anxiety disorders have some bouts with depression as well. Alcohol is no good for anxiety or depression. It could be making things worse even though it feels like an escape. Another fact that I read about anxiety is that people of above average intelligence are usually more prone to it. And there is no doubt that you have a lot going on besides all of the things I listed above.

Since you have described your eye symptoms differently now, maybe it is your allergies and the stress you are under. If you move away from the cats and get your stress under control, maybe it will all subside. I do positively recommend the book that I told you about before. I think the first book is called From Panic to Power.

My eye problems are supposedly hereditary, but no one in my family has ever had it that I know of. It is something called uvietis and last year I had something else that cleared up w/o medication. It all really freaks me out and that was the last time have had any feelings of panic, but I have that under control now. I have been trying lots of different types of homeopathic remedies and stuff like that b/c I have a friend that is into all of that and is a practioner. I think it has helped and my doctor said that whatever it is that I am doing seems to be working, and he told me to keep it up. I am going to stay positive and plan to beat it. Thanks for asking.

Anyway, back to you. Try to relax and let go of all of the bad things that have happened. Then try not to let other people affect you so much realizing we all have our lives to live. You seem to know that staying in school is the best thing for you, so go for it. When I was your age I had lots of bad things happen as well, so trust me, you can make it if you try. ;)

Now take a few really slow deep breaths, and breath, relax and realize that your whole life is ahead of you.....so make your future bright for yourself. Keep me posted.

Sunny

I am sure there is. The mind is a strong tool and can imagine anything.

For the runny nose, and eyes part - try homeopathic allergy remedies.
For me they work better than any of the common meds you can get. The effects last as long, and there are no side effects.

For the foggy spacy, out of focus eyes part. May be due to swelling accompanying the allergy.

However, consider that it may be due to food allergy. I get this foggy, spacy, out of focus eyes, lack of motivation, forgetfullness, but without the runny nose/eyes part. This is due to food allergy problems. Chief among them - MSG. Following this I got sensitivity to all monoamines.

Do some research on MSG. Try to eliminate it from your diet. This will call for big changes in what you eat. Your research will give you plenty of info on what to avoid.

I am currently havin the same thing except mine started 3 months ago and I dont have goo in the eyes. Or for that matter no eye problem at all. I always feel like my head is in the "clouds". I have swollen nasel membranes and feel pressure in my nose. I have been on three rounds of antibiotics and no relief.(I do feel though that I could have been put on stronger ones). Tomarrow I am going back to the allergist and getting a second CT scan.(the first one wasnt a sinus CT so the allergist wants a new one). I also have alot of anxiety and dont sleep well. I have ran into a couple of other people with kind of the same symptoms and got the "good" antibiotic that cleared them up. I'm not saying that is whats needed for my case or yours but it goes to show that once it gets figured out there is relief. All I can say is I know that there are alot of good doctors, knowldge and treatments available and once they get to the nitty gritty we will be heald. like my family doctor said "there is no such diagnoses as head in the clouds" hang tight you will get better just as I will. I also dont have insurance so need less to say my doctor bills are mounting but my health is more important than money. take care I will say my prayers for you . also the anxiety is from the Illness not the person I never had problems until I got this. and confident I wont when I snap out of it.

I have been feeling like i am in a dream state all the time now and it started ever since i started seeing eye floaters. Its been a lil over a month now and i feel because of my unclear vision, its taking a toll on my brain. I feel definitely slow and spacey. What is the reason for this?? Does anyone know if it attributed to the floaters?? Please relply thanks

I would like to know about the floaters too as I have them. Doctor says its just allergies and/or anxiety as he has diagnosed me with me both of those. But I feel like he just writes everything off as either allergies or anxiety. I also mentioned this to my ENT and he agrees with my GP. Who knows. Maybe someone on here knows....I hope!!
