View Full Version : Leakage after Cryo???

Hi everyone!

Ya'll remembere how I had my cryo on Wednesday? Well, the doctor told me that I "might have some watery leakage" for a couple of days. I already knew this from reading the boards :) , but my doctor made it sound like this leakage would be minimal. Wrong.

Since my cryo I have been leaking A LOT, A LOT of watery discharge and I'm having to change the maxi pad every couple of hours or so because I feel like I smell :( Gross, I know. I don't know if others can actually smell it, but I can when I use the restroom, so I am highly paranoid about it. I never expected to have this much leakage! I was supposed to run a 10K tomorrow morning, but I can't now . . . not with a maxi pad :(

Does anyone know exactly WHAT this leakage is??? What exactly is coming out of me? And also, in your case, how long did the leakage continue?

It sounds normal to me. I have not have a cryo but I heard the same thing from everybody. That it's alot of leakeage and that it smells. It will go away don't worry. They say the leakage can last up to 6 weeks or so.

This watery discharge is the shedding of the dead cervical tissue. It is common for it to be profuse, foul-smelling and persist for several weeks. You need to take it easy, avoid strenuous activity/exercise, and not lift heavy weights for the first few days after the procedure.

Hope you feel better soon!!! :)

ElenaK, thank you for the info. I figured it was normal, but I was just curious as to what it was . . . now I know :)

I had cryo and the leakage was profuse and lasted 7 weeks. ( It progressively got better with time.) I would liken it to peeing in your pants. ( Sorry to be gross! ) But don't get discouraged this means the procedure is working. I had this done in July for CIN II, I have gone on to a normal pap in Oct. and a normal pap in Feb. I hope this helps...

I had cryo about 3 weeks ago & the leakage lasted about 2 weeks. The first week though I also likened it to feeling like I was peeing in my pants. Gross but a good description!

I had my cryo this month, and only had leakage for a couple hours that day; my doc said it would last 4-6 weeks, so I'm concerned that she didn't get it all, or perhaps I just got lucky?

How many days has it been now since your cryo? Still no leakage?

Discharge is good after a cryo, as your body sheds all the tissue that was destroyed during the procedure.

Oh yes...the leakage is very normal. I had the watery discharge for 4-5 weeks after my cryo last October. Monitor the odor, though. About one week after my cryo the discharge was accompanied by the most horrendous odor...I just knew it was not normal and I was afraid to be out in public. When I went in for the doctors to check and make sure there was no infection, theynoticed that not all of the tissue was sloughing off, so they had to scrape the reminants. It did not hurt at all, but boy did it take care of the odor in an instant. Don't be afraid to call the doctor's office if there are any concerns

It has been a week today since my cryo.
Funny you should write about the odor, nagould, because I was so disturbed about it yesterday that I DID call my doctor. She assured me that the odor was normal and that it would pass. She was right. Today the odor is a LOT less.
The leakage is still going strong, though. It is quite aggravating! I have not used pads since I was an early teen and I had forgotten how uncomfortable they are, ugh! I woke up last night with wet panties and wet sheets, yuck! At least I know the procedure is working :)

Hi Elena,

I had my cryo on March 1. No leakage, or odor. I go in for a follow-up on April 12, so I will definitely ask about that--but I'm sure if the process didn't work, she will be able to see for herself. Oh well, at least I know what the procedure is about and I don't have to stress out about it like I had initially!

Yes, it does look that way... Your body should have been sloughing off dead tissue.

Please let us know how it goes on the 12th.

Take care!

Hi, everyone. It's been 18 days since I had my cryo. The leakage is a LOT less and the odor is gone :) New problem...I was due to get my period last week (4 days ago to be exact), but I have not gotten it. All I've had is a little bit of spotting. I know I'm not pregnant...a pregnancy test was performed the day of my cryo and I have not had sex since.
Does anyone know if a cryo affects your cycle? Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing, my monthly should be here in a week and I was wondering if it would affect my period... I gotta say that I love the message boards! :bouncing: I always find just the answers or the suggestions that I need. I got my cryo on Friday the 8th and it's so weird leaking everywhere, which is why I logged on to see if I was the only one feeling like a human water fountain... :) but i'll wait for an answer about your monthly cycle, I wouldn't mind a break this month myself ;)

"Human water fountain!" That is a great comparison b/c that's exactly what it feels like. Ha-ha! Yes, these message boards ARE great. They offer so much support and information :bouncing:
Well, I had sex last night for the first time since my cryo 21 days ago and my period started right afterwards. So I guess the cryo just delayed my period for about a week. Sorry, Cherimee, you might not get that break after all :)

Hi everyone :) I had my 6-week followup after my cryo, and I asked my doc why I had no watery discharge and whether it was a concern. She advised that while most cases will experience the heavy leakage, some don't. She told me that my cervix has healed perfectly, and everything looks good. I'm scheduled for my next pap in 4 months. I was told that I was very lucky to have such a small area affected, and hopefully I will have clear margins!

As for the period issue, mine came right on schedule after cryo--but I'm on the Pill, so I always know exactly what date(and time of day!) I will get it....it's always on the button! :)

:) Thank you :)

One thing I can't seem to understand is the sex thing--my doc says that as long as I continue my monogamous relationship, we don't necessarily need to use condoms because we can't pass the virus back and forth. But don't ya think the "bad cells" would come back? If that's the case, will I be doomed to use condoms forever? Wish I didn't like sex so much, then it wouldn't be much concern to me. ;)

Yeah, Seline, I am confused about that too! And I would love to know the answer.
Here's how I understand it and I don't know if I am right: The bad cells CAN reappear, but I THINK what your doctor means is that having unprotected, monogomous sex with your already infected partner isn't going to increase the chances of the bad cells coming back.
Is that kind of how you understand it too?

Hi Georgina,

Yep! That's my take on it too. My BF and I sat down and had a talk about the whole issue, and how it would be very, very bad for either of us to cheat on one another because of the risk involved in picking up an additional strain. :nono: So now that we both confirmed our faithfulness, we're going at it like bunnies ;) I'm not going to worry about the bad cells until the time they actually come back(if they do). :)

 Ok I'm in my second week and it's even worse than before, I think every drop of fluid is draining out of me  ....I'm running thru maxi's like a school girl! Did anyone experience worse symptoms later in the weeks that passed? My period is due tommorrow, but I think it's going to be washed away!!! With the rate that i'm losing fluid, I don't think 'the two' will be able to share the week at the same time....anyone else experience this?

Yes, my leakage also got heavier in the second week and I thought it was just going to keep getting worse and worse. I got very discourage when I actually had to buy a second pack of Maxi pads. But luckily my leakage tapered off during the third week and by the end of the third week I had little to none.
You might be right about your period. My period was due during the second week after my cryo and it didn't come on time. It came about a week late, during the third week when the leakage had tapered off. And even when it did come, it was very, very light. Only spotted for about 3 days.
Hope this helps :)

:bouncing: Georgina you are my girl!!! It's wednesday, and 'she' was supposed to be here today. But she has not shown any signs of coming anytime soon, so I think, she'll be late. I'm almost just like you, this is my second week, and the two are conflicting. So it probably won't be too bad when it gets here. I also found myself standing in the 'feminine aisle' at Target looking at the economy size Maxi's Ha! Thanks for the feedback. It does help! Wish me luck ( swims away ) <-- Ha!
