I am allergic to shrim and any time I eat it I feel like somthing is stuck in my throwth.... it's an unpleasant feeling.
My question is:
What am I allergic to exactly in shrim???
Is there a way to "heal" this allergy?

Hi,
I am assuming that you meant shrimp!
No- when you are allergic to a food, allergy shots are not effective. Allergy shots are only given for household or outdoor allergens. They are experimenting some with Xolair for those who have extensive peanut allergies. Some positive is noted.
I would highly encourage you to completely avoid shrimp. With most true food allergies, they get worse with each exposure. Trust me, you do not want to experience anaphylaxis. It does swell your throat causing you to be unable to breath. It can cause swelling in the lips and face. It will cause tremendous anxiety and can cause death if untreated quickly.
What most people react to in shrimp is the iodine that is in it. With- this it would also be best to avoid other seafood.
Take care

I thank you for your detailed reply!
Yes indeed I meant shrimp!
So iodine is what I am allergic to.... I know that they add some to salt but I have no problems eating salty food.
As for fish, well, I love it and I never experienced any allergy to it.... my problem is restricted to shrimp, crab, lobster.....
Please don't get discusted, I am Moroccan and we Moroccans do eat escargots, cooked of course. I have a similar feeling when eat them but it's so minor compared to when I eat shrimp that I ignore it.
Thnak you again!

Hi,
Yes- fish is ok to eat, as it does not have the iodine in it that most of the other seafood has in it!
