A few days ago I received a medical newsletter about fibromyalgia but I "lost" it. I remember it said that fm is now recognized as a disease. It has to do with the pain center in the brain being too sensitive. It also said that something called "Relaxin" (I hope that's the right word) may be a new treatment for fm. Does anyone know about this breakthrough? Thank you.

i just did a search and put in relaxin and fibro and i came up with the info you were talking about. it is very interesting.
it says that when you get pregnant that women have a reduction of fibro symptoms.
after researching the hormonal changes the hormone relaxin was increased.
women who took the supplement experienced a dramatic increase. how cool is that. maybe they are on to something huh? i am gonna do some more reaserch on that. you know come to think of it i had to get off all my meds when i was pregnant and took tylenol for pain which seem to help and took vicodin supervised by my doc as needed. it makes sense.
hope this info was helpful on what you needed.
thanks so much for the info.

The hormonal stuff doesn't surprise me one bit! As all us women know our fm pain is increased before and during our menstrual cycles. I was contemplating talking to my gp about birth control as an option to control pain - something like tricking my body into thinking it was pregnant. Lord knows, I will try anything once! To the guys out there - men have estrogen, too, so maybe the few men that do get fm have a higher level of estrogen in their bodies and could be helped by hormones as well.

Hi,
This is interesting. I haven't heard about Relaxin yet. Is it a hormone that we women have naturally? Anyway, sounds like it's good research. Maybe something will come out of it. It seems lately that any "new" med for FM has not been to keen.
I'll be anxious to see what is found out about this Relaxin.
