I was just wondering if anyone has been treated for anxiety or panic with cymbalta and had success.

Thanks.

its a new antidepressant but this doesnt necessarily mean its any better than the older ones

these meds all often help with anxiety and panic, they take 2 to 6 weeks to work properly and early side effects can be a nusiance

Thanks Hry33 (is it Harry?...just curious)

I know that Effexor and Cymbalta are very similiar in their dual uptake inhibition, and effexor is fda approved for GAD and SAD. I've also read that Cymbalta is quicker to work on the neophedrine (whatever) part, and effexor requires a higher dose to begin working on that aspect. Taking that into consideration, I would figure that Cymbalta would be as effective as effexor...its just that its new and perhaps hasn't had enough time to get FDA approval for other disorders.

That being said, I still have grave reservations in regards to all the horror stories that are out there in terms of discontinuation. But I've practically run the gamut on SSRIs and am running out of options.

Thanks again.

I was on lexapro then switched to Cymbalta (which was about 3 weeks ago) and that was the worst week of my life. I took it for one week and switched back to a higher dosage of lexapro. I have nothing good to say about Cymbalta. I did not sleep for 7 nights straight and was a total wreck!!!! I was on Effexor about 3 years ago and hated the feeling on that too! I will stick with Lexapro!

bad reactions or severe side effects to these antidepressants do happen and seem to be more common for anxiety sufferers, some docs dismiss them as exageration or all from the patients imagination

valium type meds are an alternative if taken sensibly, IMO also most anxiety sufferers are sensible people

I have a close family member who takes Cymbalta. She was suffering from horrible depression brought on by fibromyalgia. It has worked wonders for her pain AND her depression. She has been on it for 5 mos and has gained 15lbs. But that is her only complaint~otherwise she is doing great on it!

i was diagnosed with MDD (major depressive disorder), 3 weeks ago and put on cymbalta 60 mg. i have found one of the major side effects to be severe hot flashes and increased sweating. has anyone else experienced this?

i am also on 60 mg a day - i don't have memory trouble, but i find that i can't dwell on one thought for too long, my mind races to something else.

Now that you mention it. I have had alot of sweating just out of nowhere/hot flashes if you will. I was afraid that it was premenopause lol, i am 33 (not unheard of but not likely in my case) I have gained 50lbs since starting too.

I am at 30 now and getting ready to get off this ride.

Anyone with sight problems as well?

Me.
